  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

We had to put Cowkitty to sleep a couple weeks ago because he got feline leukemia. By the time he got sick enough for me to take him to the vet, it was too late.
Very sad, he was a great cat.

I am sorry, Jenley! I lost a kitty to feline leukemia years ago. It comes on so quickly, we didn't know she had it til it was too late! :(

Thanks
We are thinking of getting a kitten cause the girl kitty misses him and we do too. I would rather adopt an older cat but I really don't think Jorga would go for that. I do think she would do well with a baby to take care of and show the ropes...

I just wanted to mention... Cowkitty was an indoor outdoor cat and the first symptom I noticed was that he had stopped eating about a week and a half before. He was still drinking and acting normal so I didnt think anything of it. He was a 20 pound cat and could use to loose some weight. When I took him to the vet he was down to 11 pounds.
A side effect of not eating is that he became jaundiced. When you don't eat, your body sends your fat to your liver and that causes problems. The inside of his mouth was a yellow green. Since they don't have visible skin, that is where to look.
They could have done some stuff to keep him alive a few more days but it would not have cured him.

That's pretty much the way it was with Smokey. I don't think it was a week though that my mom noticed it, just a few days, but ti was still too late.

Ugh - I had to have my cat euthanized last week. He was a Christmas gift from my niece; he had been born with feline leukemia. He suddenly stopped eating and, mostly, even moving from where he sat. When I took him to the vet they said his red blood cell counts were the lowest they had ever seen. They said even a transfusion would only help him for a few days.

What makes it worse is that I feel a lot of guilt over his death. Could I have saved him if I'd brought him in to the vet sooner? Should I have paid to have him kept alive a few more days, just so I could spend more time with him?

Gah - this is hard to talk about. I still feel terribly bad about it.

Please don't feel bad, I don't think there is anything you could have done. I lost a cat years ago to feline leukemia, it came on really quickly, and she was gone before we really even knew she had it. Just remember the happy times with him. {{{{hugs to you}}}}

I'm sorry that you lost your kitty! That is a hard thing to do and I will have a hard time doing it when I have to for my two cats, they are family. You will see him again in heaven and he will be so happy to see you. Heaven is filled with catnip for him to have fun with while he is waiting. Big Hugs to you!!!

Sorry about your kitty, I still hurt from having to give my kitty away 3 yrs ago... I couldn't bring her with me...
************************************************************
this thread is so great! It hurts to look at them but I can't resist.... I wish someone would open up a kitty type zoo or playland where you can go in and play with them when you aren't allowed one where you live, what do you think?
************************************************************
why were some peoples photos removed or moved?
************************************************************
I'll have to post my kitty when I get a chance... is that right? you have to have 100 posts to upload a photo? I read that here... didn't know...
*************************************************************
I always love to meet fellow cat lovers, we are such a special breed! (I think people that don't like cats are sometimes mean themselves!)
Just being goofy today, I'm tired...

Horray for the kitty cats and making us laugh and smile!

I'm so sorry about your Kitty. It is a very hard thing to have to do but you did do the right thing.
I have an old cat who is not doing well and I just keep hoping he will get better but I know he is very old and I may have to make that decision. I don't even want to think about it.
