I strove to be perfect, unsullied, pristine,
Refined as a metal most precious, esteemed,
Pure as fresh snow from a mountain to stream
Transformed in sun’s crystalline undefiled beams.

I strove to erect oaken internal walls
Protecting all affective urges, installed
Formidable moats with drawn bridges, recalled
All troops to the ready, my vigilance sprawled.

Thus well encased, impregnable, glowing
With songs to Eternal One constantly flowing,
Nought could indent The Creator’s bestowing
On soul so Rapunzelled, in peace overflowing.

One cloudless day fly in ointment appeared,
A tickle, an inkling, nervousness reared.
How dare this intruder attack with a ripple!
Could fortress so carefully constructed be crippled?

Ripple evolved to a merciless rumble,
Towers magnificent started to tumble,
Seismic intensity steadily humbled
Strongest, proudest, unstoppable stumbled.

From out of the ruins, in rain, I meandered,
Sought shelter beneath a few branches, in candor
Admitted façade I had proffered, far grander
Fair blossoms above me, sweet oleander.

Befriended by others whose castles had blown,
Learning a wisdom I never had known,
Freed from perfection I fell into Grace,
In Mercy discovered how flaws are erased.

Tremors

somewhere between physical reality and spiritual mentality
a chord was struck
and I resonated

tremors led to trephining truths
timeless tipped
targeting the very center of my existence

amidst all the quaking
my excuses became quiet
reacquainted with ground of my being

when shaking ceased
I found a crease
then the Rock
where I stand amazed

Hello RR - Good stuff. So much communicated with a taut economy of words. Through all the images we share in your tremors from timeless trephing truths and your amazement at the solidity of The Rock.
Go well

I reworked one of my previous poems so it could be sung to a traditional tune.

Had I Been Born Near Jordan’s Flow – A Hymn
(to be sung to the tune of “My Hope is Built on Nothing Less”)

Had I been born near Jordan’s flow,
Grown next a plow, heard oxen low,
Trod thistled fields behind His tread,
Would I have noticed Satan’s dread?

CHORUS:
What mighty acts might I behold,
What Holy drama see unfold,
Had I been born near Jordan’s flow.

While skipping stones with Joseph’s sons,
While scribing lessons temple-tongued
And wrestling high on sawdust pile
Might I have caught Creation’s smile?

When we had bar of manhood reached,
Tall ceiling of our childhood breached,
As He advanced along His path
Could I have sensed a feral wrath?

Had He and I vocations crossed
Might I have seen His hands emboss
On sturdy timbers I supplied,
Foreshadow of the day He died?

Would we discuss news out of Rome,
High temple tax, sad state of throne,
How best to treat embedded thorns,
Prediction of a temple torn?

Had I been fishing when He called,
Seen Simon Peter, John enthralled,
Watched crowds engulf my childhood friend,
Would I have followed fevered trend?

And when the faithful left His side,
Their King abandoned, mocked, despised,
When bloodied figure stood alone
Would I and Peter all disown?

When all was finished, veil was split,
When rock had sealed would I just sit,
Immersed in marvels, seeking signs,
Confounded this was God’s design?

On Easter morn as news was heard,
Amidst the flood of passions stirred,
Would I feel heat of hearts aflame
Then find release in Jesus name?

I often dream these heady days
With Christ and I both village raised
Then wake in time with sense to know
I have been born near Jordan’s flow.

FINAL CHORUS:
What mighty acts I can behold
Now Christ is living in my soul,
I have been born near Jordan’s flow.

Glimmerick – Matthew 6:15 – Forgiveness Emphatically Frees

I trudged with the smudge of a grudge,
A weight I just couldn’t budge,
The days they grew weary
And nights often dreary,
I wallowed encircled in sludge.

One day fortuitous breeze
Broke through all the slime and the sleaze,
I burst out proclaiming
The key to unchaining:
Forgiveness emphatically frees!

Yo RR - Think you've invented a new and interesting form. It goes on my list of things to have a go at.
But more than a glimmer, a punchy declaration of an eternal truth.
Thanks

Thanks Greatcloud, it seems that sometimes we just have to be emptied before He can fill us.
Keep writing!

afish, I have been insanely busy lately and finally just had to cut back on my hours and I'm so glad I did.
What's the old song? "Work your fingers to the bone, what do you get? BONY FINGERS!"

Here is my latest offering:

Post-election Reflections While Watching an Insect on the Windowsill.

sometimes I feel surrounded

international cacophony
bellicose belligerents
derelict dictators
oscillating cultural consensus
outrageous human behavior
repetitive atrocities

pestilent invasion of personal space

and yet, per chance,
in glancing askance,
seeking relief from twitter
I spied a tiny mobile insect
winner of lottery of loose windows
denizen of vast expanse of Sill

sans GPS
phone
formal education
and FDA guidelines

full of microscopic wonders that would fit on the head of a pin

a humble hero engaging its environment
cascades of internal communications commencing
finely tuned genetic machinery alerted
poised
patterned for locomotion, procreation, digestion, defense
and endless recon

going at life full tilt
until smashed or eaten:anguished:

wonders and mysteries can distract
open
release from tetany of obsessive pursuits
free from toxin of bilious umbrage

reminders
we are free to wonder
refocus on creation
relish realization...this is a miracle
we all are part of it.

LOVE it.

Thank you for sharing your profound and sometimes delightfully surprising artistry with words.

Poets I know

He's called Roadrunner. His writing ,
Gives the people good lighting.
Afishamoungmany comments on my work
They both carve poetry pork
Christians who accept me too.
Ephesians 1
5 having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, 6 to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.

Good to hear from you again RR.
Yea, there's a time for all things. And sometimes there's time to say no to all that Go!Go! Go!
Another great Roadrunner meditation. Thanks for sharing your heart and mind's eye (and vocabulary :)).
Emoticons as part of the poet's lexicon! Great idea.
Keep on with your entomological studies.
