What do you all think? We go to work every day to earn a living. I have always wanted to get up in the morning for a real good cause,
not just building corporate America! I do I.T. work but have just never found a good fit to match $$ and cause at the same time. Does anyone have any suggestions for me? Thanks in advance!
I would be wary of getting into a judgemental frame of mind about "corporate America". Companies are companies. "Corporate America" is people working together to make better companies, provide better services. A lot of people demonize "corporate America" as their pinata, hoping candy will come out. The reasons are as obvious as those who demonize free market systems... they want all the candy for themselves.
This begs the question then of "what is a good cause".
You have to be very careful against secular world views. A company is what you make it. Many people demonize companies they work for in order to argue on behalf of their own bad behavior.
I would suggest kids are pure in heart and tend to have a cleaner view of things... the sorts of jobs which "serve the people" are such as they see... police officer, firefighter, doctor, and such.
In IT there is security, where you can secure systems against people who would rob old ladies of their retirement or beef up totalitarian countries where Christians are being persecuted.
But, there are also options for creating things in IT which make the world a better place by promoting freedom or even promoting enjoyment of a plain matter is not in itself bad.
But, generally, if you are in IT that means you tend to be very smart, and can probably tackle any profession you choose, if you put your mind to it and are willing to sow really hard...
