In Scotland we already have a smoking ban.

If we dont prevent preventable illnesses then people with emergency illnesses will die because hospitals cannot cope.

As the bible says, do not use freedom as an excuse to do wrong.
You could just ban everything except breathing! I will trust in God and not the govt. Revelation says that a third of us will be wiped oiut and famine will be common, that might solve some peoples problems. It is unbelievable how far this country has come from freesdom and individual rights.

Hi Bill:wave:

While I agree with what y'all are saying about freedoms please look at it from this side of the pond.

Over here medical care is free, but there were so many people coming into hospital from chain smoking related illnesses that smoking was banned in public places. Freedom should be maintained unless it impacts other people. In this case the hospitals could not cope with emergencies because of all the prevenatable illnesses related to smoking/ obesity etc.

Obesity/ smoking/ drunkeness are not healthy.

And does the bible not say that gluttony is a deadly sin? The Bible seems to curtail freedom to be fat too!

:)

All obesety is not caused by gluttony -

Why would anyone want the government to interfer in your life like this - anytime you get the government involved you are one step closer to dictatorship.

I agree. Plus, politicians are the most dangerous people on the planet. hey have the power to either influence or even straight-out dictate almost all aspects of your life. They tell you how you can and can't live your lives. How your children need to be raised, what they need to learn. They directly impact your ability to make a living, to support your family, and retire.

Why do you think the Antichrist will be a politician? Becasue that's where the power is. Politicians like these who whish to impose their will on the rest of us need to be booted for the good of everyone.

O wouldnt call it free when the tax rate there is over 50 per cent and as far as these other things breathing the air is bad for you, so is household cleansers, and I could thinl of 100 more that it makes absolutely no sense to ban or restrict peoples choices.

Did you know there is a bill being presented that will make it a law that restaurants cannot serve obese people.

Like that is going to happen!!!!! - All your big money people would squash that in a hurry.

Somewhere in here is a joke about the Twighlight Zone episode, To Serve Man, but I can't quite find it. ;)

Yeah and you know what that means, for all of us who have metabollic and disorders that make us big, they are discriminating against us surviving on food? So we are supposed to just wither up and die because we are fat? What idiot thought of that one?

That's like making it against the law for a lung cancer patient to smoke.

Yeah, it's stupid, but it's his life.

(unless, of course, he's blowing the smoke into the direction of someone else, which has nothing to do with his lung cancer)

People have a right to be stupid. Removing that right is an act of tyranny.

You're kidding right? The Deadly Sins aren't a biblical list. And I looked up gluttony and the word is only mentioned once in the NIV and not mentioned at all in the KJV. The one instance of gluttony in the NIV is as follows: "When you sit to dine with a ruler, note well what is before you, and put a knife to your throat if you are given to gluttony. Do not crave his delicacies, for that food is deceptive." - Proverbs 23:1-3 As you can see, it's not even about gluttony, it's about being careful in the presence of a ruler.

Unless it's called something else in the Bible, Gluttony is not necessarily a sin.
