• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I didn't realize how much of a problm I have with not eating until last night. I thought I had eaten too much yesterday because I had a really small sandwhich for lunch and then I ended up skipping dinner. Afterwards I wanted a snack, but even after I got it, I couldn't make myself eat it. I've been getting really hungry, but I still won't eat much. Help??

Have you considered talking to someone who specializes in eating disorders? Another thought that comes to mind, is even talking with your family physician about what is going on. Perhaps he/she would have some healthy suggestions for you.

All I can say is that when I feel like I'm hungry but don't want to eat, is having small, healthy snacks throughout the day (like an ensure shake or fruit) to keep my body functioning and to give my mind the ability to make good decisions.

So, this has been a problem? Have youbeen losing weight and not eating for some time? Have you just realized that when you want to eat you just don't want to, when your body is trying to tell you should?

Certain questions to ask yourself.

When I eat, do I think about it in my stomach and can't stop thinking about it?
When I do eat, do I feel like throwing up?
When I look in the mirror, do I look fat?

Even when you are thinner, do you see yourself as too fat, even though you know you are skinny?
Do you feel less anxious when you throw up your food?
Do you feel anxious when you try to eat, a nervousness that doesn't seem to fit anywhere, but you still feel nervous.

Looking at yourself and seeing someone who is not just right, to a point where you really need to stop eating, for it's the only way to look right... feeling nervous when you see a plate of food... even a salid... Food makes you nervous, like it's an enemy which can ruin your life... all of these ideas and symptoms can harm you GREATLY!

Girls are the victims of what you see, magazines and TV ads, shows and movies that show impossibly skinny women. These women become the role models for all young women because they show an ideal that can never be found. Why, because it sells products. Beauty products... skinny clothes... and even wight loss programs and atheletic equipment are there to sell you an idea. The idea is your not good wnough enless you have those items... becasue they profit from it.

So, all you friends see it and follow it. The subliminal messages that you see over and over again just keep you hoping for something that isn't real...just to buy a product to line someones pockets with money.

They very good at what they do? And ruthless!

When I worked in psych, I saw this. A woman bone thin walking like she was over weight, trying to get to her room. A teenager crying out in a shower because she fell from being so weak, hoping for someone to help her, and I found her... took her out of the shower, covered her so she was decent, placed her in a wheel chair... telling her, in her embarousment, that I was there for her...

Anorexia and Bolemia are very similar to addictions... except, instead of being addicted to a substance, they are addicted to the lack of a substance... nurishment... food. The thought of food makes them just as nervous as an addict not having a drug that their body tells them they need. Except that an addict can rebalance their chemistry through a process called detox and withdrawl. Yet, eating disorders do not have that luxury. It's harder... becasue that person has to be able to create a whole new image of themselves in order to accept food.

PrincessPeach5280? If you believe you might have an eating disorder, please find a psychiatrist and therapist who can help you. Don't let anything to chance. Seek these threads so you know you are not alone.

I think I can speak for everyone that we will all be here for you and praying for you. God can help you with this. And, all Christians are here for you! Psychology sites can help you with that aspect... but a Christain site can do more... for we pray to God for you... for all those who need help. We are here... praying... guiding and helping.

Christians do not just hope for you, we pray for you, too... Our own love for you merges with all others who pray for you... one united prayer of humanity to God, the God, who loves you back in turn. And, nothing is stronger than that!

Thank you for your replies! I do have most of those thoughts and ideas. I feel like food is my enemy. I've really been trying to eat more lately, but everytime I eat anything I feel fat again. I recently started seeing a counselor, which I hope helps me. Thanks for the encouragement.

If the idea of being "Fat" has a place in your mind, and just doesn't want to shut, up? You are not alone. Many young women feel this. In therapy you will find this.

A group who has people. People just like you. Eating is problem for them. You will definitely find that you are not alone in this. And, since you are all feeling this, you can be included in something.

This is not something you have to work for, like in school, where you really have to WORK to find acceptance.

Everyone will know that everyone there has something in common. There is no work to be done. You now have a group that understands you, what you are going through, can encourage you... and oven more importantly, you can encourage.

Now, you have a sense of purpose. Not, only to help yourself, but to help others and you can relly on them to help you too.

I might not have an eating disorder, but I do have an anxiety disorder. When you see others who are like you, you get included without any clickishness, like in school. Your group is special. It's a group where you are automatically accepted.

What you are doing is great. The counselor will hook you up to a group. It could be a "general anxiety" group or something so specific that it is geared to eating disorders. Yet, no matter how general or specific, they accept you.

Therapy for an eating disorder can help you... in more ways than most people can imagine:)
