The entire bible is about Jesus .... all have always relied on the promises of God (faith) since Genesis 3Some say that "The Great Commission" is addressed to Christians living today, in fact many say it and say also it was addressed to Christian in every age. The same goes for the Sermon on the mount. And for a great many of Jesus' sayings and lessons which were addressed to the apostles, or the disciples, or the Jews of his time, or the crowds of his time. Can you prove it? Why ought anyone take that perspective? And what about "apostolic succession", will you arguments justify or destroy belief in apostolic succession?
15And I will put enmity
between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and hers;
he will crush your head,
and you will strike his heel.”
And Abel offered a sacrifice of which pointed to the coming of Messiah. Faith in the promise to come.
As back then (His first coming) and today the Great Commission is getting out the message (promise) of the Messiah to come (for the second time)
Matthew 28:19
18Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”…
At this time He was speaking to the then 11 disciples ...and gave instruction to make disciples of all nations. The "succession of discipleship" is through all disciples (those in Christ) within the nations ..... not through a particular earthly church system of a progression of disciples through it being carried forward.
Authority .... Jesus is the only authority ... not any one earthy church organization/system or its' "successors".
It is Scripture that was and is to be the infallible measuring stick for teaching and practice (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It is the Scriptures that teachings are to be compared to (Acts 17:10-12). Apostolic authority (discipleship) was passed on through the writings of the apostles of which was and is going to all the nations, not through apostolic succession of themselves to an earthly church system.... through the nations of the world the gospel is preached and is going forward. Amen!!
