and still go to hell? I had this discussion with a fellow believer. They believe if you continue to live in sin and practice sin, then you will go to hell. This is regardless of whether they are saved or not. I can't seem to find any "once saved, always saved" types of scripture. Any ideas?

I believe that we are all born into sin. We are depraved beings destined for eternity in hell. that being said I also believe that God so loved the world that he sent his one and only son to die for all. I believe that the word came and gives us life and the word attached to the water Baptizes and regenerates us with the Holy Spirit so that we are redeemed. What Christ did was a gift to us and the only power we have within our grasp is to reject that gift.

Sin destroys us and if we ignore the gift we are close to commiting the unforgiveable sin and that is rejecting the Holy Spirit. The more in tune we are with God the more Satan is going to attack us and try to put a wedge in that relationship. So he tempts us with things he knows that are weaknesses for us. that is the struggle.

Now as I said if you are going along and you know what is right and yet you turn and move toward the sin you are falling and that will put up a wall between you and God. If you don't seek repentance and have remorse for your wrongdoing you will be in the process of rejection and that is throwing away the best thing that ever happened to you. You reject salvation and you will regret it in eternity.

Discounting the "once saved, always saved" stuff here to give an opinion on who goes to hell.

No one in this thread has stated contrary to what I'm about to say, but it sounds like your friend or whoever was speaking about those who sin, wouldn't agree with me.

This is that God will judge each of us by who we are. He knows each one of us better than we know ourselves. He knows our joys, our sadnesses, our angers, our passions, and our weaknesses. God is infinitely merciful and doesn't want any of His children to parish.

However, this isn't to say we aren't required to listen and obey Him to the best of our ability.

Some would say Hitler is in Hell, and some would say Martin Luther King Jr is in Heaven. While Hitler was a bad man, and MLK Jr was a very good man, we don't know if either is true at all.

God Bless and Pax et Bonum!
Simon

Once we are saved, we cannot be unsaved. The difference is that I believe we are saved once we are in heaven :) It's like falling out of a boat in some rapids and drifting toward a waterfall. Someone throws you a rope. You aren't saved once you grab onto the rope, for you can still slip off and fall down the waterfall to your doom. If you hold onto the rope though, you will be brought to dry land, at which point, you can say you are saved.

I* would modify it to:

"Once we are saved, most of us(1) won't be unsaved. The difference is that I believe the vast majority of those who are saved(2) are saved once they are in heaven :)"

I hope that's an orthodox statement..

(1) Satan was in heaven then condemned, though I don't know if this one counts as he was never born as a man (dunno...)

(2)Very few exceptions here, but the theif on the cross being one.

* = I'm no theologian.
