Can we set up a vote to have the Prog/Trad sub-Forums be fazed out?

Oh my--never mind--why oh why did I think I could reason with a liberal?? Shame on me!
the same reason I was under the impression I could reason with a conservative... the fact is we disagree, its not the end of the world and unlike you I remember when true adventism had no 27 or 28 beliefs.... neither were they dependent on those beliefs to define them.... As one who has been in and around adventism all of my 47 years of life, it gives me a perspective that you don't have, so don't think you have a lock on what adventism is.... you don't...

There is no reason to phase out or talk about phasing out these forums as they have not really even been formulated yet. What we have done is provide the opportunity of these forums. if no one uses them after a while that is fine but right now we don't know how much they will be used. It will probably also depend upon the rules that each group sets up in respect to the sub-forum, we still have not even really defined the meanings for those terms, so far we have just been using the previous rules and descriptions.

I absolutely agree with RC. I thought I was misunderstanding the intent of this thread, but apparently I'm not.

Red, I don't think you were around when the "New Adventist/Bible Study" forum was suggested, but the suggestion came from a young girl that is new to Adventism.

She wants a place to go where debate is prohibited and she/we can go do bible studies and answer questions for new Adventists...that sort of thing.

There's no guarantee that there wouldn't be debate in the main forum if you phased us into one big group, and that is such a distraction, especially for someone that is just learning the basics. You can have mods remove offensive posts, but it's there for a while anyway.

She was very sincere in her request, and I think it's something that could be really wonderful.

I'm not willing to phase that out without giving it a chance first.

I stand firm for separate, private subforums. If the forums are not going to be split, this is the next best thing to me. I don't know why we have all this talk of 'phasing out' all of a sudden.

We voted to have them by majority consensus. This thread is not warranted.

I saw Ice's thread (poll) before I saw this one.

Red, what exactly do you want? To keep these subforums for now and then eventually phase them out, or start phasing them out before they even appear?

I'm just a little confused.

I think we can keep them for the present (since we voted on them) and phase them out at our leisure such as in 90 days if we have a consensus, but we set up the following and implement:

1) I would set up a NO-DEBATE/STICKY subforum where the formal or official Seventh Day Adventist beliefs could be posted for study so we have a basis from where to start our discussions or studies. (This would allow non-Adventist and Adventists to see our churches beliefs as even some Adventists dont know them, just what they've been 'told'...)

2) Then a ADVENTIST DISCUSSION/BIBLE STUDY forum where the formal or official Seventh Day Adventist beliefs could be gone over and any presentation relating to the beliefs under discussion allowed. (This would allow non-Adventist and Adventists to ask questions about our churches beliefs, everyone can always learn in a true discussion of God's truth)

3) Then finally a GENERAL ADVENTIST THEOLOGY/DEBATE forum where any Adventist beliefs or issues could be analyzed by all and debated. (For those who want break down and scrutinize Adventist theology and beliefs and want to bring in different/fresh viewpoints for everyone to go over.)

Then we set up a group of ten 'elders', (those who are regarded as fair/honest in their interaction with others and have been here for a while) who keep the discussions and conversations from getting out of line and report violaters to the moderators for processing.

In other words, we police ourselves and let the moderators judge the problematic posters....

Does that mean that if a conference official joined this forum today he could not be considered to be in this august group?

The vote was 'stuffed' a bit, and I think most people that come here can learn to get along with a little help, and the problems are manageable, they just need a fair and honest brokers and a good process of cleaning up bad language and incosiderate posters....

Just the fact that you have changed from the 'wild man' you were when you came in is a testament that anyone can change.......

Thanks for noticing Reddogs.

When I first came here, I was freshly battle-scarred from being verbally dogpiled by a horribly nasty ultra-conservative group on Revival Sermons forums. I was not even being combatitive, merely sharing where I disgreed with them. Even Richard O'Ffill is completely frustrated at how many of his forum members are behaving over there, and that says a lot. Richard is as conservative a mainline Adventist as you can get.

Thus, I was in no mood for fellowship or civil exchange with those of the same stripe. At that time it was open season on anyone who even hinted of conservative TSDAism, which I regret. I was angry and hurt from my treatment there, and I carried my baggage from there over to here.

Right now, I need to let things go more, I know. I was raised to always defend myself against attack and not let anyone push me around. I have taken Martial Arts in the past because this ideal was drilled into me as a young child.

I think there is ample evidence that we have a growing consensus that the Prog/Trad sub-Forums are 'obsolete' and were a bad idea to begin with and should be fazed out. Is think that there should be a way withing the wiki to set up conditions, and if those conditions are met we can faze out the Prog/Trad sub-Forums. What is everyones feeling on this?

I think it will be more arguing if there are no two sub forums.

for some reason that is not being respected. Why?
All this fazing out business has to stop.
there are going to be 4 sub fourms at some point .

what we need to do is to.rename and then petition for 2 new forums

The vote was stuffed and the ones who really post now are getting the short end of the stick, must we continue to suffer for attacks that happened years ago and some just cant let go.....but I can work with the rename idea, anything to stop this insane trad/prog nightmare.........

sure we can... however the person who said, "those who forget the past are doomed to repeat it" said so for an obvious reason....

Amen,

Whatever was said back then, forgive each other, forget the sin against you, and let go of the hate and anger that it filled you with..

Lets start on a clean page while we have this chance....

Let it go, and lets start fresh as one group with a renewed spirit of understanding and love for one another, can we do it or does evil win?
