Can the Tea Party be Anymore Clueless?

There are reasons why sites such as Google exist. This is, undeniably, one of those reasons. I’m going to do my best to avoid politics here, because it doesn’t really matter. What matters is that this is funny, now matter how you look at it...
Oregon political movement adopts a 4chan slogan.

Apparently the Oregon branch of the Tea Party thought it would be a good idea to rip off the well known slogan of Anonymous, a group with close ties to the 4chan image board. For those of you that don't know, Anonymous is well known for everything from bomb threats on American football stadiums, to the hacking and dissemination of Sarah Palin's private emails, to mocking facebook tribute pages for fallen soldiers. Can it get more ironic than that?

Could the Tea Party be any more clueless?

They could be liberals.
No, that would make them less clueless.

That's pretty funny, though. Perhaps they should learn not to plagiarize - or to at least be very careful who they plagiarize. Perhaps they will be taught.

I suppose liberals probably find that as disturbing as conservatives find "We're here, we're queer, we're going to corrupt your children" disturbing. (I saw that motto chanted by Queer Nation activists outside a Catholic church once.)

If nothing else, however, it does show that the natives are restless----not to mention angry.

Seeing words? Absynthe? Well, regardless, satirically using someone's own words and ideas against them is the best form of protest IMHO.

If nothing else, however, it does show that the natives are restless----not to mention angry.
Well, those prone to anger...

No, the Anonymous slogan used in this context is not disturbing, it's hilarious.

Well, isn't "angry" their stock in trade, their whole reason for being a group?

That being said, stealing a slogan from a slacker hacker group doesn't epitomize anger so much as cluelessness. Although, come to think of it, the lust for destruction may be common to both.

Oregon Tea Party -> Anonymous: We appreciate your resources and admire your tactics. You have taught us more than you know. As you requested, we are no longer using the "anonymous" quote.

Well, it appears they've given in. I don't know if "appreciate" and "admire" was a good choice of words to describe such a group though.

They appreciate wanton destruction for the sake of lulz? Actually, that would explain a lot.

There's got to be more to this. Doesn't make sense at all.

I am willing to bet the tea party has been infiltrated by and is the butt of a 4chan joke without their knowledge, which would explain both the irony and the specificity of that particular message.

Which goes to show you that the tea party is not smarter than a bunch of adolescent computer geeks.

I don't know - some of those "adolescent computer geeks" have bested a lot of pretty smart people in some pretty high tech industries, corporations, and even the federal government over the past 20 years or so; and it's taking a lot of very smart people just to keep up with their destructive shenanigans...

They wouldn't even have to be smarter. They would just have to not be complete idiots.

Even if they were unaware of Anonymous, the quote itself doesn't fit at all with the Christian ideals that the Tea Party espouses. "We are legion" is a reference to the demon in Mark, 5:9:

And He (Jesus) asked him (the man), "What is thy name?" And he answered, saying, "My name is Legion: for we are many."

And what about "We do not forgive"? Isn't forgiveness the whole basis of the Christian religion?
