  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Satan does steal, lie and destroy, but destruction is not killing or ending a life.

Satan used to have the ability to take human life before the sacrifice of Christ. Examine the book of Job. God tells Satan not to kill Job, but only to destroy his health. Satan also was responsible for the bad things that happened to Job, including the freak storm that killed his sons and daughters.

When Christ died, he took back the keys of death, he took Satans power to control humanitys fate away. So we can be rest assured that Satan cannot kill.

For your interest, there are accounts of people who have suffered poltergiest situations. A poltergiest like any ghost is just a demon. People who have been in a poltergiest situation seem to come out disturbed and shaken..but never physically hurt.

Satan cannot kill directly...but demons can possess people and murder through that person. But the person is still partly to blame, as they allowed themselves to be open to the demonic.

Job was protected by God from Satan lethality. God allowed Satan to touch Job's family and possessions, and they died and were stolen. God then allowed Satan to touch Job, and Job was severely hurt in his flesh, although he was not killed. But the fact that God told Satan to spare Job's life insinuates directly that Satan could have killed Job if allowed by God to do so.

(Job 2:6 ESV) And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he is in your hand; only spare his life."

In Egypt, the last plague was that the firstborn of each family was killed by the death angel, unless that family had put the blood of the passover lamb on their door. Who do you think this "death angel" is? There is a good chance is could be Satan. An "angel" means a "messenger." Satan could well be called a messenger or emissary of death.

That's my thoughts, anyway.

The others things I agree with, but kill. I dont think so. The devil has not that power over human lives, at least i thought so..
What do you think? please give some Bible referances..

1 Corinthians 5:5 To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.

3639 olethros {ol'-eth-ros}
from a primary ollumi (to destroy, a prolonged form);
TDNT - 5:168,681; n m
AV - destruction 4; 4

1) ruin, destroy, death
1a) for the destruction of the flesh, said of the external ills and
troubles by which the lusts of the flesh are subdued and destroyed

and of course:

Daniel 7:21 I beheld, and the same horn made war with the saints, and prevailed against them;

Revelation 13:7 And it was given unto him to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all kindreds, and tongues, and nations.

Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

A person can be "possessed". Even though Satan is a non-corporeal being, he can torture the mind sufficiently to bring about death, or he can use one of his "possessed ones" to commit the physical act of murder. None-the-less he is quite capable of causing someones death, BUT only with the tacit approval of God.

Blessings,

Dad Ernie

Yes.

In this instance God protected Job's life from Satan -
JOB 2:6 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life."

Here a person is given over over to Satan and it is arguably presented that he is killed -
1CO 5:
5 hand this man over to Satan, so that the sinful nature may be destroyed and his spirit saved on the day of the Lord.

That's all from the top of my head.

However, it must be understood that since Christ has the keys to the Underworld (the Hades) no one goes into it without Christ "opening" the doors first. So, the power of death is really in Christ's hands.

REV 1:17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and behold I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.

Thanks,
Ed

But he was given authority by God to do so..
Christ has power over death. He has overcome it when He died and resurected. Even humans can kill, so on second thought i think the devil can kill to. But he can only send us to the first death. Jesus has the power to resurect us. The devil does not posess this power..
God bless!
