  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can someone please explain to me...

Dear Allyouneedislove916. God is Love, and God sends no-one to hell. Hell is where Satan and his followers live. Those men or women who do not want to return to God, will end up in Outer Darkness without God`s Love or Light. I cannot think of anywhere, where God is unheard of, or unknown. I should not worry about any answer to your question, God loves us, and Jesus died for all of us. God has sure ways and means for all of us to get to know Him. I say this with love and assurance. Greetings from Emmy, sister in Christ.

If someone has never heard of the words of god, would he/she go to hell?

Hey allyouneedislove. People go to hell because of unforgiven sin, not because they have not heard the words of God.

The Bible says in Romans 3:23
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

If all have sinned, then all are worthy of going to hell, even the ones who haven't "heard.

The Bible also says 20For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.
21For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
Romans 1:20-23

There is no excuse for all have sinned.

Very, very, few will enter into heaven without first having the chance to obey the Gospel:

Romans 2:14-16 (The Message)

14-16When outsiders who have never heard of God's law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God's law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them that echoes God's yes and no, right and wrong. Their response to God's yes and no will become public knowledge on the day God makes his final decision about every man and woman. The Message from God that I proclaim through Jesus Christ takes into account all these differences.

No no no no no! Good Lord no! Of course not... God gave you your life, you are free to walk away with it... You have walked out of the Garden of Eden all over again haven't you? But remember, unlike Eve or Adam you were not forced out due to your sin. You walked out and took Gods promise with you... your free will is yours. Having peace in mind about this fact is what will help us live well.

The person who does not hear the Word of God cannot have faith, for faith comes by hearing of the word. The person is not saved through Christ, who is the only means of Salvation (no one come to the Father except through Christ).

If they were saved anyway because it was "not fair" or "they never had a chance", then we are condemning them when we go out and spread the Word.

The fact is, all deserve condemnation. It IS fair for them to be condemned...it is NOT fair for God to have saved us.

Maybe not fair, but just and right anyway.

Rom 5:12
12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned--(NKJ)

All of humanity sinned "in Adam" and are guilty, and judged, "in Adam" unless, by faith they enter into the second Adam, Christ.

Any of Adam's descendants will be condemned because of their sin in Adam, plus any additional sins they commit, unless by God's grace they come to faith in Christ and are baptized (spiritually) into Christ.

The variety of answers to this simple question is amazing, especially considering that this is a Christian forum. But the Bible is clear-

John 14
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

John 3
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

There is no special provision for one who "has never heard of the words of god"... as Zaac already elaborated, that is no excuse-

Rom. 1
20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

To say anything else conveys false hope and insures condemnation.

Let's consider a few relevant points:

1) Who is God? What I mean by that is when we see how God has revealed Himself what is He like? Well since we're Christians here then we recognize that God has revealed Himself in Jesus. Scripture is clear on this as well, "He is the image of the invisible God" and "whoever has seen Me has seen the Father" etc. If we want to know what God is like we have Jesus to look to. Well then what is God like? Good, kind, merciful, just, loving, forgiving, gracious (ad infinitum).

2) What was the point of God sending His Son? At least at a basic soteriological level? "God so loved the world that He gave His only-begotten Son so that whoever believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life" is a rather good place to look. Rather than focusing on a possible negative that not believing in Him means perishing, rather notice the emphasis, that God so loved the world that He sent His Son, for Jesus also says that He did not come to condemn the world, but to save the world. He came to give life and give it abundantly. That's how God has revealed Himself.

3) St. Paul writes that God is "the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe." Scripture also says God is "not willing that any should perish".

I could go on, but really my point is that we should be willing to trust that God is a good and gracious God. Trying to worry about who is "in" and who is "out" is stepping beyond our bounds, and is demonstrating a lack of faith that God really is concerned with each and every one of us because He loves us.

Okay. How about if a person has never had the chance to hear about God, but all he has done his whole life are the most evil things you can imagine, breaking every single rule in the Bible. Does he gets to go to heaven?

"I am the way, the truth and the life, and no one comes to the Father but by me." - Jesus, called Christ.

That looks to be a blanket statment to me. The question is, what does the phrase "but by me," mean?

Is it rather like you have to get past Jesus like He's an NFL lineman? Or, does "but by Me" mean that you have to possess some kind of trait like Jesus has? Or something else I guess.

Paul and Jesus seem to present the latter in their theological stance.
