I been hearing this expression for a few years now, but I don't fully understand the meaning?

Can someone actually explain it to me?

What Does "Woke" Mean? There's More To The Slang Term Than You Think (bustle.com)

According to Kelly Elizabeth Wright, an experimental sociolinguist and Ph.D. candidate at the University of Michigan, language — and the definition of woke — is ever changing. “How we interpret the meanings of words naturally change over time. Woke is simply a word that has undergone a rapid pejorative shift.” Woke originally described a state of awareness and sensitivity to social injustices, but has become a sort of catchall for liberal sensibilities.
Because of this shift in meaning, some people will regard being 'woke' as a good thing while others will see it as liberals showing exaggerated concern for social (typically racial) issues

I think it has something to do with acting offended by everything and attempting to control the speech of others.

It had a meaningful enough beginning from various writers from the from the 60s and forward - being woke meant you were hip to the racial injustice, prejudice, and discrimination primarily against black society.

And true, people should be 'aware' of and try to solve such evils and disparities - if there is a solution. There are always multiple ways to solve a problem, some are good, but some 'solutions' end up causing more or worse problems.

For better or worse, the recent BLM movement absorbed the term woke, the term gained momentum and was absorbed by most all left leaning social justice advocates (including most LGBTQ, environmental, and socialist advocates in general).

I believe the term pans out to include alot of otherwise different social issues, primarily because the CRT Critical race theory ideology arguably demands it. That is; if most of our current injustices are because our American system is based on racism - then, it follows that all things are systematically ruined by this racist system (and if you believe that, you may be 'woke')

Before Darwinism it was generally believed all humans were of the same race - Darwinism was used to justify racism - the same way religion has been used to justify violence - the same way some use BLM to justify violence...

The 'motivation' for Black Lives Matter 'was' a legitimate one, because there is a historic and serious problem within some police departments with racist attacks and profiling.

But, is the BLM movement 'successful' in solving this or other problems of police abuse? Is it causing worse problems? Is BLM true to its cause? Is the movement missing other real reasons for these policing problems? (ie Police Unions, crime itself, etc)

For example, if WOKE means becoming aware of the problem of police abuse in our American culture, and you want to blame our US Constitution for that, then WOKE also seems to be unaware that police units world wide have historically been vulnerable to corruption and violence. From modern Mexico to ancient Rome, having a perfect and honest police force has been an on going struggle for mankind since the first caveman tried to police his community.

If WOKE means being aware of the plight of todays poor people and income inequality, and you want to blame capitalism - yet your not considering the terrible conditions, most far worse than anything today, that 'most all' human kind has suffered since the dawn of civilization...

And if WOKE means blaming Americas past slavery and all our 'current' difficulties on racism, or blaming white European settlers for so many things - then it seems WOKE means you slept through all the history of what the world was like 'before' and without America.

Slavery has been used in most every country on Earth, since before Egypt had pyramids even. Slavery has not been motivated by race nearly as much as it is motivated by a need for cheap labor - it would be really hard to prove slavery was ever motivated by anything other than labor or money. Most all cultures have enslaved or oppressed their own people at some point. Race, religion, tribe, caste, socioeconomic factors, are all terrible 'excuses' to justify enslaving people - but excuses are not always real, often excuses are a sin used to justify a sin.

But making slavery or injustice 'all' about race, when 'other' factors and causes are generally much greater, or worse. Means your not going to solve the problem if your not considering, or wont consider, the other causes.

Before Darwinism it was generally believed all humans were of the same race - Darwinism was used to justify racism - the same way religion has been used to justify violence - the same way some use BLM to justify violence...

The process by which a person is plugged into the fantasy world matrix.
New definitions. New terms. Double meanings. Gaining the ability to read people's minds and motives.
Getting "blue pilled."

In the past, yes. But nowadays waking up out of bed is still sleeping :) to some degree. How often one gets up out of bed, but is not fully awake.

I would warn anyone choosing to respond to this thread to take care. Part of the "woke" fantasy is the SJW, which is the social justice warrior. Do not argue or respond to them. There are cases where honest Christians trying to explain their positions are reported and accused of hate speech and bigotry simply for voicing their opinion. This is evidence in our country today.

I would simply suggest that you do not reply to this thread. It is just too dangerous. Someone is out there just waiting for you to say the wrong thing so they can twist it and make you look extremely evil. Just stay away.
Peace.

How about you, Disciple, what kind of prejudice have you experienced?
That is simple, I am a conservative on this forum, I get to defend myself continuously from the prejudice of the liberal people here who hate conservatives and especially hate Trump supporters. Next Question!

I am 67-year-old, European, white, male, Christian, conservative, married (to the same women for 47 years), pro-life, pro-law enforcement, pro-first amendment, pro-second amendment, patriotic, a Steeler fan, and comfortably heterosexual. I have 4 children and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. We home schooled our kids back in the 80s and 90s before it was cool. I began working when I was 16 and retired when I was 63. At last count I have hundreds of ancestors who arrived in the Americas before 1650. At last count, I have 50+ ancestors (grandparents and grand uncles) who fought in the revolutionary war. At last count, I have 14 ancestors (grandparents and grand uncles) who fought on the Union side of the civil war. Both my grandfathers were WW1 era vets. My father and 2 uncles were WW2 vets. My uncle was in Korea and VN, was awarded a silver start and 2 purple hearts. I and my 3 brothers are VN era vets. I was a Missile Systems Analyst in the Strategic Air Command and worked on Minuteman 3 missiles. This required me to receive a top-secret cryptographic security clearance because I handled launch and target codes. My son is a gulf war era vet and was a member of the USAF Honor Guard. I retired as a Sytems Engineer. Also, I do not drink, smoke, and have never done drugs. I have never been arrested for anything and have never seen the inside of a jail. I live in a racially diverse neighborhood with black families living on either side of me. We get along great, help each other out as good neighbors do.
Somehow all this translates into me being a white supremacist, racist, transphobic, xenophobic, homophobic, white privileged member of the patriarchy. In the minds of some woke people, I am the devil incarnate. Many of them have done nothing for our culture or our country except live off the system and stay in their mom's basement.

How does that sit with you? Would you sometimes prefer that people try to be more understanding of your perspective? Or at least respect you regardless of differences?
