I thought I was a Christian for 11+ years but God showed me I am NOT. I put my hand to the plow and looked back (Luke 9:62)... had a form of godliness though... and I also did not forsake all to follow Jesus. Particularly something that God specifically asked me to forsake... I held on to. Then I had false assurance for 11+ years. Is there any way to be saved now? The Bible seems clear that God does not forgive those things but I truly hope I am wrong... Everyone says that you have until your last breath but I don't see that in scripture. I see that some people can lose their opportunity.

The thief on the cross, moments before his death said, "Jesus, please remember me when you come into your Kingdom." Jesus replied," I tell you today, you will be with me in Paradise." This was a promise from our Lord. He does not break His promises. Be encouraged.

@Born Again2004 Thanks! There are times when I feel extremely close to God. It's hard to explain. Perhaps a sign of the Holy Spirit?
There is no perhaps about it. It will never be perfect for any of us yet but, you can only feel close to God because of the Holy Spirit. And when you don't, it is not indicative of not being saved!

God forgives everything you mentioned. God is inviting you to a Christian walk, whether it's back to it, or for the first time. Take the invitation.

"All those the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away. For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me. And this is the will of him who sent me, that I shall lose none of all those he has given me, but raise them up at the last day. For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day." - John 6:37-40

How do I get born again?
Much respect for asking such an important question!
No disrespect but you listed yourself as a Christian, for only a true Christian is "Born Again", perhaps your just not sure. I have asked some senior citizens (80+) at my old church if the were Born Again....they said...Well!, I have been going to this church for 60 years....."that's not what I asked", I said. But them not understanding that term, doesn't mean they are not....some in this group have been also referred to as "Cradle Christians".
If you don't understand the term, it means to have your second birth, the first was a physical birth, this one is to be born anew but, this time born of the Holy Spirit.
So, now the question is how does one get born of the Spirit? Basically, without a lot of detail, simply if you believe in Jesus Christ, that he was crucified dead and buried for the forgiveness of you sins and was resurrected back to life, then God deposits his resurrected life into you and you are "Born Again"!
Now, how do you know he is in you? For some, like me, praise God, I remember the very day with much joy and assurance. I really think it is different for everyone...some are truly saved but don't remember exactly when...they have just always believed! I can't say for you specifically, but you can look at it this way: There are two terms called a "Heart Christian" and a "Head Christian". A Heart Christian just knows it is true, they believe...they just have faith that God is true and working in their life! A Head Christian knows God, maybe knows the Bible better than either of us but, have not personally received Christ in their heart. Look at me, before Christ I was a Head Christian but now I am a Heart Christian.....before I knew of God but, now I know God!...If you are not sure, PM me and I will help further!

Yes I need help! I worry that I'm just a head Christian and that it is too late for me. How do you go from head to heart? I have been pleading with the Lord for several months and I don't think He will enter into my heart. I'm so worried. Heartbroken, my heart aches for Him. I disobeyed the Spirit 10-12 years ago bigtime and I am afraid that He left me for good. I worry there is no forgiveness for me, yet I need a Lord and Saviour (even though I rejected His Lordship years ago! Do you think He will forgive me?!!) Please help, I need to be born again!!!!!

You go back to where you were 10-12 years ago. Just like the "prodigal son" did. He messed up big time too. But he returned home. What did his father do? He saw him coming, He ran to meet him, He hugged him big time, He killed the fatted calf, He gave him the family ring, He gave him a coat, He gave him his love, peace, joy, honor. Your Heavenly Father will do the same for you. Scripture tells us that we all wander away in our younger years, but we usually return in our later years. And the Father is waiting with open arms to welcome us back. So go for it. He is waiting for you.

Prodigal son suggestion doesn't quite work because I was never His child. So I can't return... I need to become His child. I disobeyed the Spirit when He was drawing me to God. I can't go back to where I was 10-12 years ago because God asked me to lay down a relationship I was in but I didn't - I married the person.

It is never, ever too late. As long as you are physically alive, it is never too late!

It appears to me that you are a Heart Christian. Look, if you have done something similar to Romans 10: 8-13, then you are saved, that's the bottom line!
I disobeyed the Spirit 10-12 years ago bigtime and I am afraid that He left me for good.
  • He will never do that. I feel that you are in some sort of "panic mode" needlessly, that some how you have gotten yourself into a bondage of untruth that you are not worthy! I assure you and the Bible assures us that none of us are worthy, Romans 3:10.
  • Look at it this way Kim, we all come to God because we have disobeyed him and fall short of his righteousness. If what you say were true, then none of us are saved and all this is a lie. Romans 3:23, 2 Timothy 2:13
  • You are here for a reason, you are showing us your faithfulness. Ephesians2:8-9....Your faith is a gift from him, believe it and live it!
  • It appears he has / is calling you ...1 Thessalonians 5:24
I worry there is no forgiveness for me
  • Kim, it is for everyone...that is what all of this is about!
  • We ALL make it a lot harder than it is....that's our carnal or physical side...take a deep breathe, let it out slowly and look at this spiritually, from within: Romans 10:13.
Here is some assurance: look closely, read it several times and go back to it often....look at Romans 7 and see where Paul struggled with doing right, what would please God....and, then look at his answer in Romans 8:1. You are saved and as hard as it is to believe, there is NO condemnation for You!

@Born Again2004... I did something close to Romans 10:8-13 but not quite. You can confess Jesus as Lord but that means to actually make Him Lord which I did not do. I disobeyed the Spirit. I did not submit to His Lordship regarding that relationship. I don't think I'm saved and I don't know how to get saved now. I worry the offer is off the table.

I am sorry @Kim R, I don't think you listened to much I said, i.e., the offer is never off the table! Please don't be hard of hearted and just open up to him
