  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can I share my crazy day??

As some of you may know, I have an almost 2 1/2 y.o. daughter, Andie. Talk about a typical day with a toddler...keep in mind, this was just my MORNING, probably in a span of only 3 hours!!

Planned on only running one errand, hitting the post office early (key word here) to buy Christmas stamps. Bright idea!! There's a playground nearby, use that as "bribe" (or reward, whichever word you like!:p ) if she was good at the post office. Another bright idea...call my girlfriend to meet us at the park with her 2 year old. Head out about 9:30 (1/2 hr later than I wanted to leave, but we won't go there), driving down the road discovered I forgot my cell phone. Turned around, drove BACK to house, got phone, head back out.

Wow! My car is running on empty, warning light is flickering....try one gas station, cars are backed up waiting for pump! By that time, it is almost the time we decided on to meet at the playground...& I'm nowhere NEAR the post office!! Call my friend, she's running late too! (epidemic with the 2 year olds today, I guess!) So we dash to the post office & I'm excited because the parking lot is nearly empty!!

As I'm getting Andie out of her seat, notice her water bottle is empty & her pants AND car seat are soaked... Did I bring a change of pants or at LEAST a clean diaper!! Of course not!! But it doesn't seem to bother her, so we forge ahead....stamps were bought without incident,by the way!

Wet pants don't seem to bother her, so they don't seem to bother me, so off we go...oh, hitting a gas station on the way so I don't run out of gas...get to the park, my friend is just arriving....kids had fun....smoothest part of day!!

Decide to run to McD's on the way home, as we're in the drive through Andie says she wants to go "IN IN IN IN" so I caved & we went inside. I thought it would be fun for her to play in their inside playground thing. We eat, she gets down & runs off to play...next thing I know she's up in the very top of the "bigger kids" section, holding onto the bars, looking down at me & screaming "Mommy PLEASE come up & get!" I told her to just turn around & go down the stairs...did it work? Heck no!! I could see the tears & tantrum coming on...so what other choice did I have?? Yes, forcing myself up the spiral staircase...ENCLOSED and made for tiny bodies, NOT my mommy body!!  ^_^ I get to my daughter, we start down the stairs, and do you know what she says to me???

"That was fun! Do again!!"

We left like the place was on fire, came home, & now she's crashed in her bed asleep!! I feel like I've run the marathon!!

So welcome to the life of living with a 2 year old!! ^_^

You two are too funny.

Of course, I know I wouldn't even come close to fitting in that stuff. Can you imagine the lights and sirens bringing the 'jaws of life' to come get us out of McDonald's playland? :D
 Great!! Now I think I'm going to have nightmares tonight from the whole fiasco!! ^_^

Thanks for sharing...it really helps us mommies that are out there and have 2 year olds too..I have a 2 year old and boy just getting ready to go places can be a huge ordeal and then we have to take half the house....as I am sure ya'll can totally relate...and her daddy is like you give into her way too much etc...blah, blah, blah...sure ya'll may can relate to that one too....but I say choose your battles...like the other night she wanted to waer her houseshoes to bed and take her doll and her book with her, so I let her I mean ya know I can go get all that stuff out of the bed with her when she goes to sleep...her daddy thought I was being too soft...what does a man know anyhow???  HA!! Just joking...he is a good dad but a bit too strict on some things I think....
The latest battle of the 2 year old is not listening to mommy. It is her favorite game. I will call her or ask her to do something and she ignores me :sorry: so I try to patiently and calmly ask her again until my voice unconsciously gets LOUDER  and I finally just tell her I am going to get my flyswat... but actually that works BIG wonders and she is front and center doing what I asked..amazing how those words are magical :)
So is this typical 2 year behavior on testing the limits???? I guess this too shall pass...hopefully...then there are others days she is a complete angel..just so conpliable...doing whatever you ask...ummm, i dunno, go figure...life with a toddler!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh yea, testing the limits, definitely!! I was laughing when I read your daughter went to bed with her slippers on....we've done that a couple times, too!! I figure, why fight it?? Why make bedtime a hassle when in the big picture, does wearing slippers to bed really matter?? And you should see all my daughter's "friends" that are in bed with her....2 Care Bears, 2 Elmo dolls, 1 baby doll (these are all right up by her pillow)...then at the foot of the bed is Pooh and another teddy bear!!! Yowza!!! :)

Andie has selective hearing, too....she chooses when she wants to listen to me...I've resorted to counting to three. Like if she's dilly-dallying around & not getting into bed for her nap or bedtime, I'll count to three, and she knows if I get to three, mommy won't sing any nite-nite songs, just a kiss! After the first few times where I followed through, now if I count, she's in bed before I get to 2!! hehehe

But I tell you, she's the world's best at putting things off....now bedtimes have turned into "one more drink of water" and "one more song"....I've started letting her tell me how many drinks & how many songs. That way, she gets the feeling she's in control, but I still have an ending point. So far, seems to be working!

I think ours are typical...they're just growing up!! :( Yeah, life with a toddler!!! :)

I know....it's like, I don't want to send her to bed dying of thirst, but then again, I start to get suspicious after like the 4th or 5th drink of water, when they just become little sips!!! hehehe They are funny, it's just that sometimes by the end of the day (bedtime!) my patience is wearing really thin!!

I have a 2 yr old boy and I have 6 yr old girl. All two year olds have selective hearing. I like it when i tell him to pick up his toys and usually his sister is helping him and I or my husband is too, and he starts taking the toys that are in the toy box out, drives me batty. When he gets mad at something and his sister is around he goes and smacks her. Dont ask me why but we will break him of it one of these days. Stubborn little boy at that too lol.

That's funny! (our daughter calls my husband's mom Nana!) But you sound like us with Andie...she is such the picky eater....like today, her breakfast consisted of two whole BITES of raisin bread and 2 of those drinkable yogurt things. Lunch? Well, a couple bites of Kraft mac&cheese & mandarin oranges. Dinner? a couple bites of peanut butter & jelly sandwich, a piece of cheese, maybe 4 or 5 KERNELS of corn...oh yea, and about 3 dill pickles!!  ^_^

Yes, that is quite a day, and then try it times two... we had twins. Twin two-year-olds going in two different directions. Lots of fun. Enjoy your daughter while you can, because our two-year-old twins are now 21 years old. We just turned around, and there they were 19 years later...all grown up. What happened???

People ask me what it was like raising twins. I keep telling them I'm still recovering from the diapers! For some strange anti-physics reason, twins go through three times more diapers than just a single child. hehe...
