If we assume Paul is saved, ("I too have the Holy Spirit") then this modifies how the balance of scripture paints the picture. The passages in James about judging with mercy come to mind, they seem to apply a lot when reading the bible, since reading the bible results in making one judgment or another nowadays.

That was a tongue in cheek comment to what you posted. Obviously Paul was saved, and bound for eternal life, despite being a murderer.
