  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I more Roman Catholics reading the daily astrology news more than I've ever seen one reading the Bible.
The evidence screams against the lies.

Doesn't this sound prejudicial?

I mean you are placing all Catholics and their teachings in the same bag as the people you know who claim to be Catholic and do things against their own church's teachings.

Really. I suppose you have a webcam in over one billion Catholic homes across the globe to verify that statement?
Nah. We can tell that just by their interpretations of the Bible here on CF ^_^

There is much we learn from the posts here on CF, especially about our brethren.

1 Corinthians 13
1 If I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And if I should have prophecy and should know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I should have all faith, so that I could remove mountains, and have not charity, I am nothing. 3 And if I should distribute all my goods to feed the poor, and if I should deliver my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.
4 Charity is patient, is kind: charityenvieth not, dealeth not perversely, is not puffed up, 5 Is not ambitious, seeketh not her own, is not provoked to anger, thinketh no evil: 6 Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth with the truth: 7 Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
8 Charity never falleth away: whether prophecies shall be made void or tongues shall cease or knowledge shall be destroyed. 9 For we know in part: and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect is come, that which is in part shall be done away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child. But, when I became a man, I put away the things of a child. 12 We see now through a glass in a dark manner: but then face to face. Now I know in part: but then I shall know even as I am known. 13 And now there remain faith, hope, and charity, these three: but the greatest of these is charity.

I agree with that. But are RCs here to really learn or just convert others to Roman Catholicism?

Matt 12:42 `A Queen of the south shall be being aroused/egerqhsetai <1453> (5701) in the judging with the generation/geneaV <1074>, this,

Yeah. We just decided to follow the lead of our Orthodox brethren.
But the question is, can Christianity survive without the pope and his heirarchy today? Of course it can!!:)

How about this: can Christianity survive (without) the Pope?

Good morning, LLOJ, Christian Mom, Rick, Jack, and Kat.

the great majority here thinks that Christianity can survive without the Pope, but maybe that's the wrong question. After all, with every additional claim of authority that Popes in the past have made, millions more Christians separate themselves from him and return to the faith as it had been.

The Orthodox rejected it in the 1000s, the Evangelicals (Protestants) in the 1500s, the Old Catholics in the 1800s--all because of the self-aggrandizement of the Pope. And even the terms they used to describe themselves showed that they wanted the faith as it had been before it was changed: orthodox, evangelical, old, etc.

This is all hypothetical, of course, because God will set the times for his Church and nothing any human can do will change that, but as a proposition to think about, this one might make more sense.

You don't want to see the lack of unity in your own ranks...

There is a big BIG difference between individuals not adhering to church doctrine, and multiple churches officially teaching contradictory doctrines.

I think that is not a question as a whole but individually.

We should be careful not to be prejudice.

Peter was never once in scripture called Papa.

So what. Do you know what every person called him every minute of every day? No you do not.

A great example of the ridiculous position of Sola Scriptura.

Yes, Jesus, Paul and their followers warned of that

Mark 13:22 For shall be being roused false christs and false prophets, and they shall be giving/granting signs and wonders toward the to be leading astray if possible the Elect

I'm not here to learn OR convert.. I'm here to share.
Why would I want to "learn" from people who adhere to false doctrines?

Anglian,

You are so very knowledgable about Christianity. Is this because of education at a university or self study or both?

Jack
Dear Jack,

You are very kind. Like all of us, I am but a child in the Faith, and everyday I learn more about my need for Our Father.

I was fortunate enough to study early Church history at University, and spending, as I do, time in helping our Coptic people deal with Muslim assaults on their Faith, I pick up a thing or two on the way. We are so very fortunate in the West to have the freedoms we have. Perhaps, as we use that freedom, we might spare a prayer for our Christian sisters and brothers in those countries where to be of the Faith is to be in real corporeal danger?

peace,

Anglian

Greetings Mama. If the RCs want to call priests "father" and the pope "holy father", that does not really bother me.

Greetings. Are you saying the RCC is the only denomination that holds all Truth concerning the Scriptures? Just curious.

Revelation 12:1 And Sign, great was seen in the heaven a Woman having been about-cast/peri-beblh-menh <4016> (5772) the sun and the moon underneath of the feet of her

A perfect example of nonsensical accusation.
Displays willful ignorance as well as the willingness to provoke animosity.
A great ambassador for his congregation of choice.

Greetings RO! I don't believe it is a matter of it being "willful" as they feel they must adhere to the teachings and doctrines of their denomination and their leaders in Rome.
The Mormons, SDA and JW's also are pretty good about defending their views, doctrines and interpretations of the Scriptures.

John 5:39 "Ye are searching the Writings that ye are seeming in them life age-during to be having, and those are the ones-testifying about Me".

Reve 14:11 And the smoke of the tormenting of them into ages of ages is ascending, and not they are having rest of day and of night :preach:
