  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Can Charismatics debate here?

which gifts do charismatics deny???

I'm thinking here of gifts like serving, teaching, encouraging and administration. According to Paul these gifts are every bit as valid as tongues, healing or prophecy but some charismatics appear to regard them as "second-class" gifts and give the impression that someone who does not have the more "spectacular" gifts is not truly saved.

I'm not having a go at charismatics in general, I think we can learn much from them in terms of faith and passion for Jesus. I'm just saying that some appear to have this attitude.

Yes, there are some in error, yet there are pretty much some of every denomination in error.

Lex, charismatics are the ones who believe spiritual gifts never ceased. (The early Church said they had ceased so people would stop making claims about secret knowledge and coming up with new canon. However, it popped back up in the late 1800s.)
Not to be argumentative here :D, but Eusebius wrote of gifts being in existence in his day in his Eccl. History, cir. 4th century. And there is much written of their existence throughout church history. They didn't "pop" back in the late 1800s.

thank you for clarifying, Plan 9. I did not want to be a source of confusion. I was going by my memory of Jimmy Swaggart from the Assembly of God. He always mentioned the three that I did as being Trinitarian and Pentecostal.
I used to be Assembly of God, and I read the statement of faith of Four Square. They were atarted by Amie Semple Mcpherson, I believe. The Pentecostal denominations grew out of the Asuza street (sp?) revival in 1906. I thought that there was a trinitarian Chruch of God that was Pentecostal:scratch: I was aware of the Jesus Only groups which is why I foot noted my post.

sorry again if I gave misinformation:sorry:
You information is accurate according to my sources.

A friend of mine did her Master's thesis on the homiletics of Aimee Semple McPherson, and traveled to Angelus Temple to study there. She found rolf McPherson to be a fine, hospitible man, and used to worry that he wouldn't like her thesis when she sent him a copy. lol
I thought it was great myself!
Sister Aimee was a fascinating woman and she fed and clothed many people during the Great Depression. :)
