Hello brothers and sisters in the Lord. Heres a question i need an answer to! My family attends this church which is not SDA, there are a few people who claim to be prophets in that church including the pastor himself. He claims that God whispers in his ear and he must convey these messages to the congregation. Another lady also claims to have this gift and she said to my brother and sis in law that God said they are going to have twins. They are not pregnant as yet. The pastor mentioned to me once that i will come out of the SDA church and i will be in the wilderness as Moses was (figuratively) and i will forget all i have learnt in the SDA church as Moses forgot all that he learnt in Egypt. He also stated that i will become a pastor and will use my hands to heal. Well a number of other things were said but i will keep it short. I hold fast to my Bible as being my only source of truth, so i would like to know what are your views on people who claim to know the future. God only knows the future.

the last thing that you said is very true. only the Almighty God knows the future. And at times He will reveal it to his prophets. But there are those who are true prophets and those who are false prophets. somewhere in eclesiastes, psalms or proverbs (i'm bad with texts) there is a verse that says something like, "those who keep God's commandments have a good understanding." Does this man keep God's commandments? i think that would be a good indication of whether or not he is indeed a prophet. Also, since you read your Bible, you will definately know if and when he preaches false doctrines. Pray to our Creator for guidance and strength. God bless bro.

I would suggest going to the Amazing Facts site and reading or watching the Storacles lesson "Proving the Prophets." (You will have to scroll down the list to find it since it doesn't have a direct link to that lesson.) It explains the biblical tests of a prophet.

You should write down all the foretelling just so you won't forget to verify, if and when they occur. People have a way of prophesying hoping that some will stick and the ones that don't will be forgotten.

I agree. If you make note of all of them and if any of them don't come true, you will know for sure that the person is a false prophet.

No matter how authoritve prophecies sound, they are still conditional. One of the israelite kings was blatantly told "God says you are going to die, put your house in order" and he prayed and cried for longer life, and God sent the prophet back to him and gave him 15 more years. Dont shut your mind to the possibilities, but just take them with a few grains of salt and seek God fully, relying on the word as the root of truth. But God does indeed have prophets, and does indeed heal, yet remember to sacrifice time to God in the study of the word and worship.

you know whats really funny about some Christians, they claim to be "full gospel" a very loose term used by non adventists in South Africa but they do not adhere to simple bible truth, yet they claim to be prophets. I will stand firm in this one thing, "to the law and to the prophet, if they don't speak according to these then the truth is not in them".
