I was driving home tonight and was chating to God in my head. I wasn't sure what to talk about and He asked me to talk about love. I asked what kind of love and He answered the love I felt for Him.

I found it very difficult to answer and was trying to think what to say when I finally arrived at my house. I live quite near a petrol refinery and it has huge flare stacks. The actual stack is hidden from my view but the flames light up the sky. Anyway, I couldn't answer and as I looked at the orange sky, despite the dark, God said to me "humans like to destroy what they cannot create." It sounded quite angry so i asked God if He was angry with me and He answered no, but He's not pleased with me either. I asked Him what I could do and He answered.

Like what you can see Mount Zion was a pillar of fire by night. It was never safe to touch or even go near it. Only when the fire goes out can anyone go over to the flare or touch it. You must become like that fire and extinguish."

I have no idea what this means. I went into the house and decided to light a few of my scented candles. The match stuck ok and was burning well but as as soon as I lit the candle, both the match and the candle went out.

Sorry if this seems almost crazy...God has never shown me anything like this before and to be honest I'm quite surprised. Even more so because a match and candle that were burning well but went out at the same time.

hi .... if you are having trouble with understanding what God was showing you ... a good step would be praying and asking Him for clarity .. it is ok to say that you don't know and to seek His help even in interpreting His own messages ... i hope you find understanding in this, and peace

Yes Ask God first what all this means.
It is usually how it goes when you see things from God. He gives you a picture or a word and then you ask Him what it means and when He tells you, it is a revelation to you. Not just learning an answer to a question because you can know things with your mind but not really get it with your heart.
I read it again and (This is not inturpretation just what I think) it sounds like He's talking about giving up control, dieing to self, letting Him take over... The original question was about your love for Him. The second thing was Humans like to destroy what they can not create... We use up petro. products without being able to create more... But what does that have to do with Love?
Do we try to destroy Love because we can not Create it?
God is Love... Do we (humans) try to get rid of the concept that God is, because we can not create Him?
Please if/when you get the answer from God. Share it with us.

Hello but'n'ben,

I am in no way "qualified" to give advice, except that I do know the Lord, and I have to say I am disturbed by this message, and I question whether it is indeed the Lord speaking.

You have been left confused and fearful that God is not pleased with you.
The Lord does not give condemning words to His child.
I believe He speaks to His own encouragingly, and urges us to repent if we need to, maybe quite forcefully, but not with confusion and fear like this, and always being clear about what is required of you.

Compare the voice you heard, telling you to extinguish something of yourself, with the words of Jesus telling us we are light. Does this voice really match up with the word of God?

Then read Isaiah’s comforting words:
Isaiah 42:3 A bruised reed he will not break, and a smouldering wick he will not snuff out.

Where there is even the smallest flicker of love for Him, He will not snuff it out.

Regarding the Mountain on fire; this was OT Sinai, but in Hebrews God tells us we approach Him through a different way.

As Christians we come to Mount Zion - see esp. v. 23:

18 You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm;

19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them,

20 because they could not bear what was commanded: If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned.

21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, I am trembling with fear.

22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly,

23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect,

24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

God loves you.
Trying to focus on your emotional feelings of love for Him may not be helpful; it’s putting the cart before the horse so to speak.
We love because He first loved us.

So read lots of verses about His love for you, and allow your response to that float up to Him in worship.

I don't know why you had this unpleasant experience, but your first weapon against possible deception is to soak yourself in biblical truth.

Is there anything going on in your life which may offer a challenge to truth?

I am wondering what the “Watcher of Illusion” by your name means?
I may be out of order to question you, but it may be relevant.

May God bless you and reveal His truth to you,
Susana

You cannot touch a flame, or something that is with flame because it is hot. When it goes out, then you can touch it. Perhaps this was showing anger, and/or a judgmental attitude in you? Perhaps this may be something God wants you to work on. People cannot approach you because of this, and God wants you to be able to draw people to you. You cannot create love, but you can open yourself up to God's love placed within you for others to be drawn to.

My best understanding of this...take it or leave it, but I hope it helps.

Thanks folks for you help.

I'm still not sure what it means or if it was God talking to me but I guess I'll find out in due time.

LordIsMyBanner, watcher of illusion is from a show I used to love when i was a kid-Knightmare. The dungeon master would say to contestants 'welcome watcher of illusion to the castle of confusion' It's got no God related meaning to it :)

When you say 'extinguish', maybe he wants you to help the enviroment in some way... like the gas and whatever is going in to the atmosphere. Like someone said, meditate, pray and sooner or later the answer will come to you. Don't worry over it but, clear your mind and sooner or later He will answer

I agree with Susana (The Lord is my Banner).

This "displeasure" that you sensed is not borne of His nature and His character.

In Christ, all of God's displeasure, and the fullness of His wrath, was placed upon the Lord on the Cross.

Jesus became the "displeased" so that you could become the "pleased" of the Father.

God would not come to His child and instill fear and uncertainty to guide them.

If there is sin, the Holy Spirit would make it clear what was wrong, and show the way out.

I fail to see anywhere in scripture where God would speak destruction to his child; the extinguishing of the flame is a very negative image, and totally against the Lord of life, light, indeed fire.

You are entitled to an opinion WesWoodell, but will you back it up from the word of God as I have done with mine?

Blessings
Susana

When you really love someone, it should be reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally easy to eagerly express that love directly to them. Loving words show flow effortlessly...gushy gushy gushy...mushy mushy mushy! :D  So you were having a tough time expressing how much you love God. I could see why He would be displeased, since, He displayed His great love for you in Christ and continues to show you His affection daily and loves you more than can even be comprehended!

The candle and the match going out at the same time, could show that though you were in a close relationship with God (candle and match burning well), your love for Him may have grown cold because maybe tough times have hardened your heart towards Him.

God's love for you is unconditional, remains constant, unchangeable. So whether you are in a time of blessing or adversity, your love for Him should be steadfast too. Let Jesus be your Ultimate Example, despite and in His excruciating suffering, Jesus loved and obeyed His Father God. He loved and trusted His Father so much that even in crucifixion, He knew His Abba would work His glorious wonders! :holy:

God certainly could be admonishing you to extinguish Self-will that would stubbornly fight against Him and even resist receiving His love, a Love of all loves! Being Self-willed would make you cantankerous (like a fiery smoke stack) and unapproachable.

Hebrews 12:5-6 ...do not make light of the Lord's discipline, and do not lose heart when He rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those He loves...

Other Bible verses do say that it grieves God to afflict (discipline) people, however when they stray from Him who is utterly benevolent, He must mete out repercussions to get them back on the right track. If they stray without consequences, what is to keep them from straying farther away from His goodness, thus endangering themselves and others even more?

Hebrews 12:9-11 How much more should we submit to the Father of our spirits and live!...God disciplines us for our good, that we may share in His holiness. No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
