Most of the bands I like are classic rock, hard rock, metal, grunge, and punk and yes, Byzantine Chant. I'm not "addicted" to music, I don't feel the need to worship Satan or commit sins or crimes..if anyone does I would bet my entire life savings it ain't because of the music they listen to.

MetallicA has a certain song called "Devil's Dance" I think lyrics deal with the way Devil works and doesn't necessarily promote Devil. I believe all the difference is in the lyrics as far as my musical preference go.

I would probably participate in any music thread that was started, because I like tons of different kinds of music.

I think it is a huge leap to assume that people who enjoy metal are addicted to it.

That is a good way of putting it. We all have phases in life we go through and music preference is greatly affected by it.

guys, i believe wayseer is asking an honest question (maybe his writing tone could be better, but i don't think he means anything bad). he is trying to understand.
I'm not so sure, but I'm willing to give him the chance to show that he's reasonable, and not just being divisive. I asked him in the latest metal thread to make his case. I'll repeat it here, in case he's more comfortable doing it here:

What exactly about Heavy Metal... let's start with Christian Heavy Metal, you know, music that while having a relatively fast beat, down-tuned guitars, which also declares Christ and Him risen... What exactly about that is so contrary to living a Christian life?

Or in your opinion, should the Christian cut away all forms of entertainment? This is actually an opinion I'd be willing to entertain... and have considered myself. If we are to give our all to Christ, then maybe this is the way. But it sounds to me like you are simply condemning one form of music, and because of a false impression that it is one and the same with sex and drugs.

Like I said, make your case. I'm ready to listen.

... how addiction to heavy mental bands is part of Orthodoxy?

Such addiction is nothing more than another example how the word of Christ is being turned into worldly religion masquerading as Orthodoxy.

If this is what Orthodoxy is all about then Anglicanism is miles ahead of this lot.

No way, wayseer.

Byzantine Chant and Russian Orthodox Chants are true examples of Orthodox music.

Although the Divine Liturgy is my first love, I prefer to listen to a CD or to attend the Supplication (Paraklesis) or Akathist service to the Most Holy Theotokos. Those are awesome services.

Bluegrass is the music of God~everything else is but a shadow of that truth :p

I love the old song "Jimmy Brown."

It is so Christian with its prayer for heavenly salvation.

In a true Irish bluegrass, here are the words and music.

http://deesongs.homestead.com/churchbells.html

Here are the partial lyrics:

All the chapel bells were ringing
in the little valley town.
And the song that they were singing
was for baby Jimmy Brown
Then the little congregation
prayed for guidance from above
Lead us not into temptation,
bless this hour of meditation,
Guide him with eternal love.

Perhaps you think I have gone over the top here. Perhaps I have. But I know what happens on the other side.

I have been an undercover cop and a member of a motor cycle gang. I've seen most of what happens. Clean kids suck into a system that feeds on youth and innocence to do the dirty work.

I've seen the faces of those who are the 'suits' behind it all and they could not care less for anyone except themselves. They are the face of 'respectability'. They are protected by circles of various forms of low life - the enforcers. The object is to suck the young in to do the dirty up-front work. And the way in is through drugs and heavy metal music.

A friend of mine, son of a pastor, was sucked in and told me he had to come up with $16K of he was dead in a fortnight. He won $24K on a lotto ticket - a get out jail free card if ever there was one to get. Yes, he paid off his debt but he just kept on dealing and the last I heard was that he escape death when he house was burnt down. He out at the time but his sister and friend were incinerated.

Heavy metal is an enticer - a way in - the baited trap. I know not everyone ends up alone dead in a flat but there many that do.

For these boards to tolerate part of that system is beyond comprehension. Flaunt your heavy metal taste elsewhere not in God's house.
