  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

i love hiking and camping. i did it almost every summer with my family and then with some friends. we always slept in tents. it´s a great feeling to lie in a tent and listen to the rain and to wake up in the morning and go swimming in the sea. its great as well to go camping at a festival - with thousands of other young people.

ilovespring, what is a swag??? Sorry, not familiar with that one.

We were originally planning on camping this weekend here in Ohio but I've just gotten over the flu, and now we've got one of the kids are sick. Probably not a good idea right now.,lol.

A swag - is basically a canvas sleeping bag - zips all around. You have a thin foam mattress inside and then you have your sleeping bag and pillow inside. Usually keeps you relatively dry if it is raining and keeps the bugs out if you have zips all around. Unfortunately, my sway is opened at the head end so something could crawl in if it really wanted to - scary thought but I try not to think about it.

Swags are really convenient - you roll them up and chuck them in the car if you want to stay overnight anywhere. A great Aussie invention! Ever heard of Waltzing Matilda and the opening line "once a jolly swagman??".

There ya go! A bit of Aussie trivia for ya!

We have something similar here in the U.S. called a "bivy sack." Its a bag that zips all around, (so nothing can crall in) with a mesh screen for your face. Usually made of a GoreTex waterproof material you can put your sleeping bag in it and keep dry, so you don't need a tent.

Interesting. So from what I understand a "Swag" is what we, in Canada would call a Bivy-sack. I have a Bivy-sack for my sleeping bag it in itself weighs about 1 pound it has Gore-Tex (a nylon type material waterproof but breathable) top layer with a 100% waterproof nylon bottom and a mosquito netting that can be used if you choose it also has a zipper that completely encloses my sleeping bag, foam and pillow inside

Only enough room for one but vary lightweight. One of the best pieces of camping gear I bought. The best thing for backpacking.

GuyThaLizard, "Nude" just means barefoot all over.

Yep - sounds almost the same. Perhaps different material. You can also get double sized (which I have - to share with my husband). Also, ours is not so lightweight because it has its own mattress and you put your pillow inside.

2 People inside, I have never seen that in a bivy sack. I don't back pack with my wife, she dosn't like to get dirty LOL. But that's ok I get to go with my kids and on my own. I prefer to go alone. Our youngest son is in Cub-Scouts so we get to go a few times a year together. But every once and a while I take a weekend off and pack my bag and start walking up into the hills for a couple days, I find the solitude relaxing and regenerating, I am a bit of a naturist you could say, so to get away by myself with God is something I look forward to. I guess I am an introvert.

Yeah, a double is really nice...like having your own personal electric blanket (my husband that is!!). No, I think solitude sounds like a great way to relax!

My wife says that I am an oven also. High metabolism I guess. LOL. I am a warm sleeper, guess that's why I like the gore-tex it lets the sweat out. :)
