  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Try camping with a 6' x 10' piece of canvas. Make a lean-to out of it and keep a good fire going in front of it on cold nights. Some times if it not cold I just cover my bedroll with the canvas. But with my wife and / or kids I have a large canvas tent.

A shelter half?

Personally, I'm a sleeping bag man myself. I too agree that camping in a motorhome is not camping. It's like home, without the internet.

We love to camp! We like State Parks. We have a popup now, but we have had tents, travel trailers and a motor home. We were out of camping for several years when our lives were just too busy and we just got back into it last year. We went tent camping and decided that we were getting too old to sleep on the ground so we bought the PU and have stayed in it 6 weeks in the last year. We camped with our kids when they were at home, and it was the best bonding time we ever had. Nothing like sitting outside watching the sun come up with a good cup of coffee :) enjoying God's handiwork!

Camping is our family's top hobby! We go to Tar Hollow, a local state park, several times each year (thus, my user name, lol.) We have two vintage Apache popup campers. One's a '77, the other, a '69. I used to do the backpacking and tenting thing when I was younger, but now having a family, it's nice to have everything already packed in the camper at all times; makes for less headaches when packing for the kids.
We are taking our first trip this year in a couple weeks, the first weekend in march. A little cold still for Ohio camping, but we'll still enjoy the campfire and playing games inside the camper.

We have camped out in the Nevada Desert, dry camp four days, and three glorious nights in the wilderness. There were all kinds of vermin about, and that included rattlesnakes. I came across a rattler, and boy did I jump and run! There were other critters out there, too, I am glad they didn't confront any of us. It was an archaeology field trip. I'll take the travel trailer these days, for I've had enough of the rough stuff. :)

Emerald, I almost stepped on a rattlesnake while hiking in New Mexico's Bandalier National Monument! Yes, I too was slightly unnerved.

I had stopped alongside the trail momentarily and saw a couple approaching me. We chatted for a few seconds, the woman (a Native American) looks down and says, "oh look, a little baby rattler!" She kept bending over to get a better look; I really thought she was gonna pet it!! And here I had just happened to stop hiking and stopped right beside where it was coiled up.

I love camping - all camping is camping (just different kinds of atmosphere!). I wouldn't say that one way or another is not camping. Camping is what you make it. But, personally I tend to stick to my swag (is that just an Aussie thing?). Sometimes we shove the swag in the back of the car, especially if it is raining. Camping right on or by the beach is a great experience - I recommend it to anyone who has a chance!

ilovespring, what is a swag??? Sorry, not familiar with that one.

We were originally planning on camping this weekend here in Ohio but I've just gotten over the flu, and now we've got one of the kids are sick. Probably not a good idea right now.,lol.
