  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Just curious if anyone camps? I'm getting ready to do it with my church and am pretty clueless about a lot of what to bring.

I went as a kid (but that was camper/RV style and everything was pretty easy) and later on a retreat in the mountains (but all the food was there).

Anyone have camping stories they want to share? Bears or racoons that raided your food, horific weather conditions like a tornado or storm that ripped your tent out of the ground or rain/cold throughout, or whatever else you can think of?

I'm not sure if you've already been on your camping trip, if so I hope you enjoyed it.

I first went camping a couple of years ago with my husband, I never wanted to go before, I like my home comforts of electricity, my hair dryer etc but it's something my hubby enjoys so I gave it a go and I actually really enjoyed it!

The journey on the way to the camp site was fine, lovely sunny, dry weather but 10mins into putting up the tent the clouds came over us and it poured down! I was ordered to get in the car to keep dry by hubby whilst he was outside getting drenched, not very happy at all and he swore he'd never bring me camping aagin but after the rain, the rest of the camping holiday went fine.

The second time we camped we had a storm, which again, unfortunately for my husband started whilst taking down the tent, the winds were so strong that the tent just blew out of the ground and needed some sewing up in places afterwards.

Despite the rain, battling the elements, it's good fun and nice to be away from everything electric and just be in the fresh air and peace and quiet.

stealingheaven, thanks for sharing. The rains sounds awful, but your attitude sounds upbeat. That's great.

Yes I went with my church a few weeks ago and survived maybe one night (even though I had been in the army for 9 years - but that's not camping). The noise from kids getting up every hour or someone chopping wood at 4am woke me up too much. I'm a light sleeper. So I opted to join them the next evening but head back home for the night since I'm only 12 minutes from the campsite. Maybe next year, we'll see....:)

oh, and I found out racoons can open your coolers, I had one outside my tent but luckily they didn't get in it.
