I've added a couple of words to my OP. How about now?
Okay - I understand now, however Calvin was French and I'm fairly certain that more than likely he did not speak English. His commentaries and Institues were translated from French and Latin versions later. I've never read the McNeil translation in your link and couldn't say what Bible translation he used. Sorry.

I own that translation by McNeil and it's pretty much considered the standard...BUT, I prefer the single volume from Hendrickson Publishers translated by Henry Beveridge. McNeil does some paraphrasing and interpretive translative stuff that's over my head since I don't read French...but his notes are worth the effort. Beveridge, to me, just reads better.

Thanks! I was thinking about getting the McNeil but I think I'll stick with the one I have by Beveridge.
