I started out as a Roman Catholic (all Cajuns were Roman Catholic way back when). My family left the Catholic Church for the Southern Baptist Church when I was still pretty young. I was a solid "Arminian" Southern Baptist until after I got married. My bro-in-law was a PCA pastor. He and I got along great and became close friends. We debated predestination and he challanged me so I decided I could prove him wrong. I lost on that argument and on the argument about infant baptistsm too.

Coram Deo,
Kenith

Where are you from Kenith?....I always get suspicious when people say "cajun" now.....too many people walking around calling things cajun that have absolutly no cajun roots.

You're about the right age, can you speak the dialect? Unfortuanly it's dying off in my family.....very sad actually.

Tigersnare,
I live in Lake Charles, but I was born in Kinder and bounced around all over South Louisiana. My family actually left the Roman Catholic Church while living in the very Cajun town of Eunice.

My mother is from Basile (Evangeline Parish) and My dad is from St. Charles parish (up River from New Orleans). They both speak Cajun French fluently, but Mom has a Prairie Cajun dialect. She could speak only French before going to school. She learned English in school. My dad has a River Parish dialect. He grew up bilingual.

I understand a good bit of Cajun and can speak it some, but I am very far from fluent.

I want to cry when I think that our native culture and language will soon be gone.

Are you a Cajun?

Lache pas la patate, mon ami.

Wow, talk about a small world.

I grew up in Kinder, only left for school at LSU. Most of my relatives are living in Mamou, Soileau, Elton, Basile, and Oberlin.

My great aunts and uncles are all very fluent in the language, but unfortuanly it was not passed down to my dad's generation and therefor leaving me completly out of it....but I've heard it's thriving in places like Ville Platte.

I have a very strong cajun background but I don't have the "coona$$" accent, and I don't know the language.

You are correct this is a small world. We may even be kin, because I have "coozans" in most of the places you mentioned.

I don't have the accent either. When I was young it seemed that everyone had the strong Cajun accent, but it is dwindling rapidly. It still exist but will not be around much longer.

My best friend, Mike Seep, was a Doctor in Kinder for many years. I'm sure your family must know him.

Were you active in the R.U.F. The son of another close friend recently graduated from LSU and he came into the reformed Faith through R.U.F.
The "son's" name is Aaron Johnson. Do you know him?

In Christ,
Kenith

Getting smaller and smaller...

Dr. Seep lived next door to me for several years in Kinder, Justin and I were big buddies while they were here. Dr. Seep is a great guy and still our family doctor.

I am indeed active in R.U.F., I moved in next door to the campus ministers office a little over a year ago, I also came to the reformed faith through him and R.U.F.. I haven't met Aaron, he left before I came around Ruf, but we have mutual friends and I've heard lots about him.

This is great

I grew up in the PCUSA. I learned nothing about Reformed Theology. I flirted with agnosticism and Free Will Baptist. Two years ago I set out to do a systematic study of the major branches of Christian theology. When I got to the Canons of Dort rockets went off in my head. The truth of the Reformed faith is so biblically obvious. I can no longer embrace anything else. God is soveriegn. To deny His soveriegnty is to deny Him.

That being said, I have studied Calvin's defence of infant baptism and found it lacking when compared to the biblical evidence. I am a Credo-Baptist.

Grew up Quaker, they didn't talk about it much. Always believed one could lose salvation, always believed that God gave us total free will to decide to come to Him or not.....

then I actually started reading the bible--and lo and behold, couldn't back up any of these beliefs properly....gotta thank the Jehovah's Witnesses actually, my in-laws became JW and I knew I needed to get sharp on my beliefs if I was gonna try to "show them the light"---LOL...who woulda guessed???

So i've officially become a Calvinist about ummm, a month ago! And wow, does the bible ever make so much more sense!!!! Praise God!!!

That is the same way I felt when I came to understand these things. It took me two years (I was debating my preacher bro-in-law) and did not want to lose. I am glad he one the debate.
