  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I was wondering if any of you have noticed correlations between Calvinistic beliefs and other conservative beliefs. I know that there are exceptions, and this may just be the crowd to which I'm most exposed, but it seems that way to me. For instance, the Calvinists I know predominately believe in traditional relationships between men and women:

Singles (friends): hang out in groups to not give a hint of impropriety
Singles (romantically involved): courtship, boundaries in the dating relationship, biblical roles of men and women
Couples (married): biblical roles of men and women

Have any of you noticed the same connections, or other ones? Is it just me?

Yeah, and I think my answer is similar to Keil's. Maybe it's that Calvinists tend to be more knowledgeable and accepting of what Scripture actually says, as opposed to what they'd like it to say, and at least some of those other things are commended to us therein.

PS- Nice pic of the Wylde man.
