Because it's too easy to see the spoiler before reading the alert otherwise

That only works if a person's background is white. Since you can have your background any color you want, any color will show up for some people and not for others. My backgraound is not white so your white letters are just as visible as your black ones.

Well, on some other sites, they used HTML code of some sort to start and end your spoiler so that assured that highlighting was the only way to read it. But I don't remember the code. And some sites also had a button you could click after highlighting your spoiler and that did the same thing.

I dont seem to have a spoiler button that I can see but I'll bear it in mind.
