Welcome Davidnic and Matthewen to the Dr who forum.

I am a big Tom Baker fan.

Speaking of looking for those episodes...I found a classic talking Dalek going cheap in a Charity shop. It says things like

"Dalek sensors detect Timelord"
"You cannot escape the power of the daleks"
"Under attack"
"Advance and destroy"

And the "menacing advance" mechanism is great too! (okay its your basic pull and go but it looks good!)

DS now has a remote control K9 which the cat is very wary of! She doesn't like his rc daleks either!

Am I behind the times or does the voice which gives voicetext messages on land lines belong to/sound just like Tom Baker? A friend of ours sent one for fun recently saying, "Quick, Josh, get in the Tardis! The Daleks are coming!"

So, Doctor, what's your final verdict on Torchwood? It was a bit hit and miss IMO, and certainly unsuitable for DS. There were several enigmatic moments which left me saying "huh?" But it was watchable enough. Can you help me out with the last episode, at the end when Capt Jack responds to Gwen's question saying, " a different kind of doctor". OK, I get the reference but why would that have tempted him? Or is this just another example of an enigmatic moment that leaves us guessing?

My wife has a habit of making anything she can not find. One of my Christmas gifts was a tee-shirt that she made with a photo of a Dalek with an Ipod.

I first started watching Dr. Who on PBS in 1982. It was on at 7:30 at night. My grandmother, in her wisdom, would not let me quit my trumpet lessons on Tuesdays to watch:)

So my brother (who was 18 years older than me) would tell me about the episode I missed when I got home. After awhile he said, "You know I have a set of ten novels."

I said, "There are books....books!"

They were all Tom Baler era stories, a set of ten each with the same introduction by Harlan Ellison. I still have them on my shelf. I would take my allowance each week and get a new Dr. Who book at the book store once new ones started to come out.

Captivated, hmm I watched Torchwood right through it is very different to Dr Who, more an adult Xfiles really in some respects. Spoiler zone ahead! I think the reference to the "different kind of doctor" and Jack being tempted into the TARDIS is that I think he wants answers...after all he was first killed by the Daleks then brought back to life, abandoned in the future (its never really explained how he gets back to the 21st century!) and now can't die.
There was talk Capt Jack would return to DW in series 3 so maybe this is the cross over. End of spoiler Zone (Highlight the above between the spoiler alerts if you really want to know!)

Davidnic...a good friend of mine collected all the books... I read a few. I also read some of the new adventures and thoroughly enjoyed them.

Tom Baker has been the voice of the BT Text service during December...I kept sending my other half texts

"Hello dear Tom here...he'll be home soon" used to make her jump when it wasn't my voice.

Only December? What a shame, it's much more fun than the usual voice!

Thanks for your insight to my query, pretty much what I thought. I'm afraid I'm one of those people who like to KNOW, not be left wondering! If it works out as you suggest, then all will eventually become clear (I hope!).

Me too, but I guess we wouldn't keep watching if they told us everything....I'm curious to know whether we will ever know the Doctor's actual name or (Spoiler zone) what Captain Jack's real name is for that matter. We seem to know more about Gwen that we do the others...other than Owen once being a Doctor and Yantob working for Torchwood London.(Spoiler ZONE)...highlight only if you want to know.

I have always been curious...we know his academy nickname was Theta Sigma...Part 6 of the keys to time...his friend Drax says it until he tells him to call him Doctor. Is it me or is Impossible Planet/Satan Pit the scariest story ever?

Apart from the Ood of course when they were sane they were quite interesting characters.

Do we know who the longest-running companion is? Most last a long time, but who was the longest? Do they keep records like that, anywhere?
I am sure someone knows the definitive answer... but I think Sarah Jane may be the longest unless you include books and audios.
