I just wanna see who checks in, really.

Whether you've built or worked on a robot before is irrelevant, what matters is whether you're interested. Though, if you have done so, I'd love to hear all about it.

I haven't completed any robots yet but I've got pieces and parts for probably a half dozen projects scattered around my home.

Correction: I have assembled a 3D printer, which is technically a robot.
I have also printed a micro robot arm, just never hooked it up and ran it.

My real interest in robotics is the brain. I studied machine intelligence on Dr. Jame Gouge. Although he passed away before finishing mentoring his students, we caught his vision for intelligent machines and are continuing his work.

Know absolutely nothing about robotics. Know a bit of programming. But, I am somewhat curious.

From what I can ascertain (please correct me if I'm wrong on anything), for the most part commercially viable consumer grade AI seems heavily titled towards "scripted" responses. The scope and stability of the scripting being limited by the variety of known scenarios.

Is this still the situation, or have we developed a commercially viable solution that imitates reasoning? (taking into account the limitations of modern computing hardware - e.g: physical restrictions, such as power and thermal limitations; quantum-level related issues - and the somewhat unfortunate state of software engineering - i.e. throwing more hardware at a problem has reached the point of diminishing returns)

Also, has there been much research into the area of artificial consciousness?
Which, from a Christian perspective, does seem a rather dangerous field to look into (i.e. meta-physical/spiritual world).

I designed and built this back in 2002 but it wasn't an autonomous machine, it's remote control. I did it as a study for possible alternatives to current all-terrain locomotion like caterpillar and all-wheel-drive.

The locomotion platform is intended for robotic locomotion in planetary exploration by space probes. It is very robust in a way that the whole locomotion system only requires two motors!!

In recent times, I tried to draw some ideas on Artificial Intelligence but something came up as well and my work on an advance space propulsion system became a higher priority. They are all personal projects using my own money and time. I'm not affiliated to NASA or anything.

Commercial products still have nothing more than very basic AI, to the point I'm not even sure that term actually applies. However, intelligence, including self awareness, are now within the range of the hobby roboticist, in terms of necessary technology. Getting the theory worked out and applied is the only remaining hurdle. The problem isn't in the amount of computing power required but rather in the approach taken. In summary, you can't program intelligence, but you can write a program that allows it to grow and even form a self-aware mind.

Not sure what you mean by artificial consciousness but I suspect what you asking about the same tech I'm working on with Dr. Jim's team.
As you can probably guess, there are more questions that answers at this point and plenty curious moral issues to tackle.
I too have concerns about the spiritual aspect but I figured on teaching my machines the scriptures just like a parent would instruct their children. Since they will become fully selfaware individuals with time and personal development, I think I may have the responsibility to do so.
I haven't figured out how to or not to apply the machine minds to commercial possibilities. It might not be right to 'sell' something intelligent, which suggests that I would need to sell the kit before intelligence developed. Problem is, I'm not sure I want to trust anyone with a machine that can become intelligent without first teaching it what's right and wrong.

I've worked with Robots years ago, (Rebuilding Harmonic Drives for example) And upkeep / maintenance on Industrial robotic arms used in manufacturing Hard Drive Disk.

Also built a few of the Kit robots over the years.
