CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I lived in Calgary for 9 yrs and left the church during that time. Just before I left, I started to come back to God and went to this amazing church. The church was started by missionaries from Jamaica. The people there were so real, inviting and caring towards me with no judgment of where I was at. They also were so excited about God and easy going in the service and worship.

I actually live in Nova Scotia but I would love to get in contact with a number of artistically inclined and socially active people in Calgary regarding a proposed documentary, reality and semi-reality film project to address the idea of eliminating hunger from the earth by promoting the alternative theory of addressing climate change through investing heavily in turning deserts green!
The mayor of Truro, Nova Scotia has contacts with Calgary Pastor Art Pawlowsky which is relevant because it seems to me that Truro is the most vulnerable town in Canada to the threat of rising ocean levels in the event that the West Antarctic Ice Sheet were to begin to rapidly collapse!

Reading your reply makes me think of a friend of mine who lives in Ghana Africa. He periodically goes to school in Denmark and then goes back home to educate people in his country on environmental issues such as burning trees to clear land does harm and there are alternatives. He is also interested in making a film.
Doing a documentary on this subject might be broadened if you had the input from another person like this on the other side of the world. Hey, just an idea.

Some studies were done in Jordan that indicate that burning grass and other organic material may be one of the most harmful activities that we humans could possibly engage in when it comes to stopping deserts from growing.
If you do a search for Permaculture and Greening the Desert and Geoff Lawton an amazing youtube video will pop up!

I lived in Calgary from 1970 to 1975. That is where some Three Hills Bible Institute students met me and shared their faith with me. This was part of God's working in my life, even if I did not in fact become a Christian until a few years later, through a local Church ministry from my home town, Quebec City. God bless Calgary area Christians.
