Bush just hassled Kerry for suggesting that how one defends oneself should be affected by how people are attacking you.

I think Bush is holding his own pretty well. I'm surprised he hasn't hammered more on the 'spreading liberty' theme. I think it's mightily suspect, but it plays really well and sounds awfully good.

Not a terrible debate so far. Better than I expected at least. Kerry definately holds the upper hand right now. We'll see how that lasts.

Remember, Bush has in the past only had one trick up his sleeve in a debate. That trick has worked for him and it is to latch onto a single phrase and repeat it many times. Once he picks the one cute phrase he is dogged in his determination to repeat it. That's what he did against Ann Richards years ago and he somewhat did it to Gore.

So far tonight he hasn't brought one to the table, that's not good for him. We all know, he isn't going to kill you on an intellectual level; he needs that cute homespun, folksy saying.

Bush just slayed on that response about hugging the wife of the dead soldier or whatever. He may have found his folksy groove.

This is the first time I have seen Kerry sound/ look Presidential. He sounds very confident.

I thought it sounded a little tin-eared. Bush did a great response, and then Kerry shot back with a 'we'll KILL the terrorists'. It was jarring.

I actually enjoy those moments, when Kerry does that. It always seems that it is something that isn't canned.
