Buying and selling, and marrying and giving in marriage can mean people are living for themselves.

Also, it can mean people are taking advantage of the vanity and stupidity of ones foolish enough to buy their products or to marry them.

"He who loves his life will lose it," Jesus says in John 12:25. People will destroy their own lives, by not depending on God. They are in love with what they want to use others to get by marrying them, and in love with what they use money to get. And in their selfish loving they are foolish and weak enough to ruin their lives and their own personalities.

However in righteousness - meaning how only God's love is right - we have wisdom and stability for how to live and relate.
