  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

This may sound crazy but Grace fights burping. She kicks & cries like all get out. And she doesn't burp every time either but has tons of gas still. Sometimes and this is probably bad but the very last of her milk I won't try to burp her so she will sleep because she gets soooo worked up. Anyone got any tips?

try using two or three fingers and firmly (but gently) rubbing her spine from her bottom to her neck...do this four or five times and then pat a few times....then repeat...after 3 or 4 repetitions of this she should be able to get all the air out. Some babies are just more prone to gassiness than others..my oldest son had a terrible time burping until his ped taught me this way and then it was smooth sailing! Also if you place her on your knees after eating and GENTLY move your knees up and down while patting this will also push out much gas. Also I don't know if you are bottle feeding or not but if you are try and get a bottle that you can force all the air out of before feeding her..like the playtex disposable nursers...then once you fill the bottle squeeze out all the air and the first bit of the milk until you get a steady stream with not spurting..then feed her she will take in much less air and therfore you may only need to burp her mid feeding and then if you be sure to get all the air back out before resuming her feeding you won't need to burp her at the end of her feeding.

thank you! I have pur her across my legs and also sitting her and leaning her over. I am using those playtex now and not sure if they are helpoing or not it seems like it makes her more gassy. I dunno I'm just exhausted at this point. I'm not sure what is going on but she has major gas. The doc said it's colic and it's really tiring for sure!

Does Grace have a dummy???
I found that Maddie did exactly what you are describing, and as she was bottle fed, didn't get as much 'comfort sucking' as she did on the breast. I give the dummy straight after a feed, she only sucks on it for about 5-10mins.
As soon as I gave her a dummy straight after a feed she settled down enough to let the air up. If I forget her dummy now she chucks the biggest tanty!!!

It's horrible isn't it...

Yup. I feel so lucky, Keaira has never been one to fuss much, but there was a stage where she seemed to be more gassy.

Once she got to where she was pulling herself up to standing (balancing on stuff) she seems to burp herself mostly. How old is Grace?

I guess that is a pacifer? :) IF so yes she has one & loves the thing too but only at certain times. Hopefully she will get out of the gassy stage sooon!

Sorry... Yes, a dummy is a pacifier!!!:D
I really find that it helps Maddie calm down to let the air out... But there are sometimes where she doesn't burp at all... and other times where she is a burp machine!

DH is an expert burper. I don't know how he does it, but it works every time.

Jonathan fights burping with a passion. His back is sensitive like my sister's is -- and he doesn't like it rubbed and tolerates having it patted.... sometimes.

I bounce him up and down, walk him around the house, and eventually he'll burp, and sometimes spit up. If he doesn't do that, it works its way out the other end.. and L-rd help us then! He puts us all to shame with his gas..

Or maybe just try a different style of nipple. My youngest had horrible gas...but it was because she was drinking her milk WAY too fast. The hole in the nipple was too big and she was sucking it down too fast. Once we found a nipple with a smaller hole, the gas seemed to settle down a lot.

Thank you angel!

I have tried every bottle out there so far. And I have raised her head a little when sleeping but nothing helps. She is just major gassy. No sure if it's the formula or not either I've heard that some babies are gassier than others. I bought some Little Tummies gas relief which is the same I think as the Mylacon drops which I did try. But she is still gassy.

How old is your little one? If she's old enough to roll herself completely over on her own try putting her down on her tummy after a feed during the night. This might help the gas to come out and give you access to pat her a bit while she goes back to sleep.
