Everytime I view the Burning man videos, it looks like a long walk between different shows. I wonder how wide (miles) this show is.

I don't think generalizing what people struggle with is a wise thing. For some it wouldn't be wise, but for others the things going on at burning man aren't a stronghold. I for one, would not be tempted at all by people snorting coke or really any other illegal drug--it's just not something that's tempting for me.

Here's a real life example for you, actually. The church I attend has a ministry which takes care of, provides food for, and builds relationships with women in the strip club industry. Now for many people (many men specifically) this isn't a ministry they could be a part of because of the temptations and sin--for many men lust is an easy foothold for Satan. That doesn't mean, however, that no one should be involved with helping the many broken, hurting, needy women in the strip club industry.

To the OP, if it violates your conscious, then don't go. Personally I'd have a problem with it if my Pastor or anyone at my church asked me what I did over the weekend, and I had to tell them I went to Burning Man.

From what I read about it, it started as an original, albeit weird and slightly dumb, event of artistic self-expression (let's hang out at the beach and burn wooden guys and dogs! ART!). But it seems to have grown into a money machine ($200-$300 a ticket? Seriously?) and an excuse for people to act like lawless idiots (an average of 5-10 arrests and several hundred citations per event).

If you want to appreciate real art, visit a museum.

Um...

I had to look through a good percentage of those pics before I found anything that could possibly be construed as offensive by someone who isn't looking for things about which to be offended. I DID see a lot of awesome stuff that I wouldn't mind experiencing.

Once again - ALL KINDS OF PEOPLE go there. "Radical self-expression" sort of implies a vast diversity among the attendees. And the really bizarre, fringe or NSFW stuff is not publicly displayed. You have to go looking for it. And it seems perfectly reasonable to me that someone who is not interested in the sort of thing could attend the event, and never encounter it or be tempted to seek it.
