• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Ive had that, yeah throwing up can do that. Throwing up because of bulimia is not good for your teeth at all. Mine are ruined as a result of bulimia and my cheeks were swollen but its gone down now. Yes you do need to see a doctor and you really really need to learn how to manage bulimia if your not yet ready to give it up. Take it easy!

My inner cheek is swollen at the back and is partially covering one of my teeth, It is actually quite painful and I have no idea what caused it. Can throwing up do this? Has anyone experienced this?

Those are swollen lymph nodes and salivary glands. The swelling is a response to repeated damage from the hydrochloric acid in your vomit.

Yes :) You guys are correct. They are infected, sometimes even blocked parotid glands (salivary) due to the vomiting. The gland opening is about in the same position that you mentioned. It results in "puffy" cheeks.

When I was bulimic I had the same issue. I woke up a few times with PAINFUL cheeks and pain while chewing and opening my mouth wide. It took me three to four days for the pain to resolve usually for me. However, my cheeks were slightly always on the "puffy" side of things.

In regards to tooth enamel repair and prevention, there is a special product you can buy at the dentist which has "amorphous calcium phosophate" that is a tooth rub and it strengtens tooth enamel. If you are concerned about your teeth, you should consult your dentist during your next visit and they will have some products. :)

This was one of the reasons why I sort professional help for my bulimia. As a young person you think you are rather invincible... you think that the medical problems won't happen to you... and then they do... and "the rubber hits the road".

I am now twelve months free :)
Choose recovery :)
Praying for you all :) x
