Wesley seemed to have much in common with the East...maybe even more than he had with the West, at least in regards to salvation, sanctification, etc...I've read that he was influenced by an Orthodox priest, but I don't know how true that is.

he definitely had an appreciation for the early Fathers, especially the Cappadocians and St John Chrysostom.

My church history teacher was Orthodox.

that's a common thing. while not an influence on my conversion, one of my history professors in college is an Orthodox priest, and ORU used to have an Orthodox priest teach Church history, and he had to leave because so many of his students became Orthodox.

Church History was an add-on class for him. I don't think the college still has that particular course unfortunately - but he teaches in another department still, so we still get a lot of college students from there. Father actually is able to hold Vespers services as alternate chapels at the college
