Both I and my teen had Invisalign braces. My dentist told me that there would have been a need for tooth removal if we had gone the traditional route. If your child is mature enough to keep the braces in (they can be removed), then this might be a good route to inquire about.

My 15 year old was born with a cleft lip and palate and so he is having very extensive and invasive work done. It can't be helped.

He just had four front teeth removed and two other baby teeth (no grown teeth to take their place) cut even with the gums to serve as natural spacers in the back. On Monday he is going for new impressions and they will make him Invisalign braces with fake front teeth to widen what little upper jaw he has. After this phase is finished he will have more serious surgeries to reconstruct his mouth, and then he will get dental implants.

All this to say, they can do a lot with Invisalign. I think its more a matter of which doctor you use, rather than the method. And a good doctor will know which method is best for individual.

The biggest worry is getting him to and from the doctors and hospital because it's three hours away. He's always been a trouper and he has a good cleft lip and palate team. After treatment during the healing process can be difficult because there has been several instances of him being put on liquid or soft diets so food won't cause damage to new work. That part is very hard for him

I personally had traditional orthodontic treatment as a teen and my smile is fine. I am told by dentists all the time that I have a small mouth, a small bite, etc. It's difficult to use the Xray bite things.

Right now the dentists have not suggested any orthodontic intervention for my children, but they are 3 and 6. If it comes to that, I want to consult with an Orthotropic specialist first, or an Orthodontist with Orthotropic training, which can focus on jaw expansion and maxillofacial shaping to make room for the adult teeth.

But this is purely speculation as I haven't gotten there yet.

has any of your children/teens had braces?

orthodontists in our area uses different braces or methods
has anyone used the Damon method?
is one kind of braces better than another?

thanks in advance for any info!

Just some quick study, the Damon system sounds like what I have been reading about with respect to Orthotropics. I haven't studied it in depth, but it interests me.
