The Footlocker uses rap in thier commercials. I am a Babptist and I have convinced my family and friends to boycott the footlocker for thier choice of ad campaigns. Rap is greatly responsible for the corruption of todays youth. As christians, I urge you to join me in hitting this corporation in the wallet for adding to this ongoing problem that plauges the youth of today. I have e-mailed the Footlocker concerning this and they don't seem to want to pull the rap spots. Thank you for you attention to this subject.

There's just as much trash out there of other genres that isn't rap. Hardcore rap is garbage in my opinion, however, dctalk is rather rap-like and they are so uplifting with the spirit. I'd rather see people not buying from stores or products that use trampy models and such for advertising. Oh well.

Blaming rap for the corruption of today's youth is like blaming McDonalds for obesity in America.

Just a sidenote: There are plenty of Christian rappers around today. Are they to blame as well? Plus you're labeling an entire genre of music, without caring to specify.
Agreed. I don't like rap at all, but what you said is worth ten tons of gold and diamonds. Well said and excellently argued.

I don't blame McDonalds for obesity but McDonalds is more to blame for obesity than rap is to blame for society's problems but I do like the analogy Gil Galad. If somebody like Eminem was hired to advertise for Foot Locker then I might support a boycott. I'll have to see a Foot Locker ad to know how I feel about the issue.

I said nothing about christian rap and it is obviously that none of you live outside of gated communities. I guess I came to the wrong place with this concern. Sorry to bother so many people that have obviously been lured into the rap world. Do me a favor though, watch BET for an hour. Then go to the mall and really listen to the way that the baggy pants wearing crowd talks and acts. Then post a reply to this thread.

Yes i agree that (secular) Rap music can be a negative influence, but so can other music. While I appreciate your concern and support you in your decision to boycott footlocker I think you'll find if that is your stand you are going to have to boycott A LOT of places to avoid looking hypocritical. Most highstreet stores use inappropriate music, or ridiculously thin models or sex or something else that ought to be disapproved to sell their products.

If this is your stand well done for standing pure for GOD, but I don't think you are going to get a lot of support here, your argument and basis were a little weak (though i'll admit mine are no better) and since you are a newbie you haven't established a reputation. We know some other people and therefore trust them to have thourghly researched the issue and we will follow them. We have no way of knowing if you are someone constantly with a cause who needs a reason to complain (i'm not suggesting you are, just illustrating that you could be)

WELL DONE for your efforts JEN :p

I actually live on a private drive.

I guess I came to the wrong place with this concern. Sorry to bother so many people that have obviously been lured into the rap world.
Did you read any of the replies? Where the heck do they say they approve of rap?

Oh, excuse us if we don't completely agree with you! We must be ignorant because we don't live on private drives.... [/sarcasm]

What is shown on BET isn't the whole of rap.

Um, for that matter watch an hour of any primetime top 3 network shows and I think one could come away wanting to ban/boycott darn near everything advertised. Now, I don't like rap. I think the lyrics in the hard core stuff are despisable. However, I have a certain respect and admiration for the ability it takes to use the beat and rhyme the way many rappers can. Wow if that energy was directed to praising the Lord what a movement there would be.

i'm picking up hints of racism/biggotry in this post.

i happen to like bits and pieces of rap in the same way i like bits and pieces of christan music (most of it is awful - lyrically, creatively, and musically, but there are the few exceptions).

Why? Because we didn't pop up and agree with you like you expected?

I guess we can boycott McDonalds (reference to the posts above) because they make people fat...even though people don't have to go there to eat.

I guess we can prosecute slow drivers because they make people late...even though the road conditions aren't the best and a wise person would have left early.

Boycotting Footlocker because they used one rap song is simply rediculous. Unless the lyrics contain unsavory words, I and the rest of the world don't have a problem with it. Its called an "advertising gimic," and just because you don't like it doesn't mean we must suit your will. We have our opinions as well, and we obviously think that boycotting Footlocker or any other company or group because of a musical gimic is really silly.

Nope, sorry, but you're wrong. I don't listen to rap music, not because of the lyrics but because the genre just sucks. So does Christian rap...regardless of the lyrics.

I've watched BET and went to the mall and I have seen the youth acting like morons...just like every other generation out there. A good majority of kids are idiots. Many think they're cool and need to fit in some category. Well, congratulations, you just attacked one out of many.

It's obvious that you all just don't see the big picture.
I'm afraid you might be using too big of a picture. Can you please explain more on how rap has a major responsibility for corrupting today's youth?

I must say that the Foot Locker commercial does actually turn me off from going to one, but only because the commercial is generally stupid.
