Boy I did something stupid tonight...

One thing that is not fun about living on the woods besides people dumping animals on you is running people off your property. I heard a hound dog in very close proximity and without even thinking about it I got in the car and tracked it down. There stands 4 guys with guns and I yell: 'Get the hell off my property!' They finally get the dog and were sort of defiant a saying they had no control over where their dog went. Ok, whatever. I told them I was sorry for getting nasty but coon hunting can really screw up deer hunting and my husband would not be happy. We do not want you hunting on pur property. Some of the guys were acting beligerent and basically showing their guns in a way that was not cool. And guess what I went out their with? My phone. Pretty stupid.

I know exactly the type. I loathe me some trespassers.

If you can't control your hounds, don't hunt your hounds. Neither losing a dog nor tacking a wounded animal is a legitimate reason to trespass. We put our phone number on our no trespassing signs for a reason, call if you want to come aboard.

So since I know next to nothing about coon hunting. Are those dogs supposed to be trained so their master can control them while hunting? I did not like these guys attitudes.

Don't know, you be careful out there. I know when the dogs chase and tree a coon they won't stop easily (read that in a book iirc)

We've had idiots stop on the road and shoot up into the property near the house- near my kid to shoot a deer.
Some ppl - have no brains...
These are 'violations' in the rules of hunting safety.
Sounds like you found yourself some.

Make sure your property is POSTED.
Then you can call the cops.

I know a bit about hunting rabbits with small hounds, but nothing about hunting coons with big hounds. Hounds are admittedly stubborn - when their noses are on, their ears are off.

In spite of my fondness for Where the Red Fern Grow, I don't get hunting coons at all. Who wants to do all that work? If you're so hard up that you want to sell pelts, trapping seems a lot more efficient.

I'm not a fan of it. I don't get it either. I do know there are coon hunting clubs up here but I do not know what the purpose is exactly.

I love my property but it is a lot of matinence. I just don't like strangers with guns. And I pride myself on having a safe haven for wildlife and strays here. Coon hunting is just so obnoxious.

no, pretty smart in my estimation.
one call to 911 saying that there are trespassers on your property armed with loaded rifles
should get a response pretty quickly in these days.
