Sorry: been there, done that. He was in a movie called Entropy, directed by Phil Joanou (who directed the U2 movie rattle & Hum). Mind you, he sort of played himself, but it was a start.

David Bowie was in Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me (1992) and Mr. Rice's Secret (2000) just to name two.

Harry Connick Jr. appeared in Hope Floats (1998) Basic (2003) and Mickey (2004) just to name three of his rather substantial filmography.

These are just two singers who became actors there are several more. IMO There is a short step from one to the other. Singing in front of a live audience on stage requires acting - entertaining. While acting is a different skill it isn't like a brick layer making a move to archatect.
