  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Body Piercings are absolutely ridiculous. It's a form of desecrating your body, much like tattoos are. They're not attractive, most people think that they look "trashy", and that the person who has one is doing so only for a "trend" or because they're lacking something in their life that the "rush" obtained via a body piercing makes up for it. Or, they simply want to have attention, or attention drawn on themselves.

Absolutely no purpose to a body piercing, unless you want to look like a freak.

Seriously, why the fascination with piercing your eyebrow, lip, navel, nipple, tongue, etc.? Isn't that odd? Are you only doing it because it has become trendy among young people? If no one was body piercing, would you still do it? I view body piercing to much the same way that a lot of young women are now getting tatoos near their ankle or waste. It's become trendy, and they don't want to feel left out. However, who in the world would want to live with a tattoo the rest of their life. Most people wouldn't. Similarly, regardless that body piercings aren't permanent, why would you put something in an improper place? In fact, what's the motivation driving someone to do such? It doesn't make sense.

I think it depends on the motive behind it. When I was 25 I got my nose pierced, I could have given you any number of justifyable reasons why I did it at the time, but 8 years on and I look back all I can see is that I wanted to 'make a statement' and actually the root behind it was rebellion... I don't have it any more.

Perhaps you could draw a body chart for us. Like put on it "cool" areas and "uncool" areas. I wonder if God has a chart like that and whether or not yours would line up with His

ok after reading it a few times. I think you are saying that the bible speaks against percings?

You do know they had percings in the biblical age even godily people. I think it was abraham (sp?) whos wife had her noise perced. That was common back then. It was a sign of being married to a man and being taken. Having their noise perced thats what the godily peple did back then.

I think the posts that say "piercing is just desecrating the body....but ear piercings are ok" are just silly. That's just grasping at straws to further one's own opinion of the matter. Either all piercings desecrate the body or none do.

I think none do. I think that it could be a sin issue in some of the following ways: God tells you, personally, not to and you do anyway; you get a piercing for a sexual (outside of marriage) reason; you're under your parents' roof and they ask you not to and you do anyway.

But I don't buy that the piercing itself can be a sin issue.

I think that if it's a sin issue in someone's life, the Holy Spirit is faithful to convict people of sin. That's His job and He's good at it. He doesn't need any internet help.

Actually it was Isaac, Abraham's son (but that's just being picky).

I've got a nose ring. And I think it fits the social norm of those times. being that
Isaiah 54
5 For your Maker is your husband-
the LORD Almighty is his name-
the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer;
he is called the God of all the earth.

I dont know if thats true theres some weird percings out there. A percing that has almost a 90+ % chance of being infected is probably not suppose to be perced. i.e back, arms, hands, cheeks, ect.

I believe God has created us in His image and directed us in a way that will gives us the best possible fulfillment in this life. Jesus Himself perhaps gaves us the final word on this. "You see me you see the Father " Now if Jesus didn't think it appropriate to have tats and body piercing I see no reason for me to have nor to be "proud" of any I might have had before my conversion.
