  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Tonight I saw Blood Diamond. This movie is arguably one of the most moving films of all time. The actors were amazing, the story was amazing.

I came home from the movie speachless but a million thoughts running through my head.

I really think this movie has the potential to change lives. It certainly helped put some things into perspective in my own life.

I really recommend this movie to everyone.

If you have seen it what did you think?

cheers ;)

I have really wanted to see it and have seen many many good reviews, but none that says it is THAT good. I guess I should probably see it now.

Thats cool aca, pity you didnt get anything from it but its all good no worries.

The movie made me think about materialism and how some western culture materialistic ways cost peoples lives in more poverty sticken countries. The exploitation of lives was disturbing, all for the greed of riches and money.

I reevaluated my life and a few things that seemed so important to me are now no longer that important. I felt ashamed for ever having a tantrum when I couldnt have what I wanted when I wanted it lol. I feel a bit stupid writing this stuff here doh.

The thought that someone could have died in order to make my engagement ring really did my head in! I know that diamonds come from all sorts of places and I am not that naive to think that all diamonds come from war torn malitia groups in africa. It just made me think about stuff. we cant take riches with us, life is too short to be selfish and the world does not revolve around me etc.

cheers ;)

I spent 3 years in Sierra Leone from 2001 to 2004 off and on working with Mercy Ships. I really want to see this movie. The situation has changed greatly with the diamond trade since 2001 so you do not have so many "blood diamonds" these days. But Sierra Leone is still a very poor country in spite of it's wealth of high quality diamonds.

Many blessings

I thought it was a good movie that got its message quite powerfully and realistically. There was one problem I had with it though. I did not like how the civil war sequences were made to be conventional, exciting action scenes. They were made to be a little too choreographed and "entertaining." War in real life, I would think, is very messy and chaotic and I would have liked less flashy pyrotechnics. I guess that is part of Hollywood mass entertainment with a socially conscious message these days. But think of a much more powerful independent movie like Hotel Rwanda, which explored its important subject matter without outrightly showing violence and focusing more on the effect that it has on the people witnessing the atrocities.

I thought this movie was very good. I work in a dvd store and this movie has not only been very popular but I also have not heard any customer say they did not like it. It made me appreciate my own country and also made me realise how some people live. And how some people can be very brutal when it comes to greed and money.

SPOILER ALERT!!!
One customer did make us laugh when she made a comment after watching Blood Diamond and the Departed was that from now on she refuses to watch any more Leonardo DiCaprio movies as he seems to die alot. She then rambled off those two movies along with Titanic and Romeo and Juliet. Although he has made alot more movies then those four we found this comment very amusing and observant.

I saw it a while back, was pretty entertaining, but it didn't blow me away.

What was funny to us here in South Africa was the way Leonardo DiCaprio pulled off the Afrikaans-English accent.

At one stage he asked some black guy a favor and the guy said no. DiCaprio then uttered an Afrikaans swear word ( which needless to say I won't repeat here ) that we all still make fun of today. But yes for an American it wasn't too bad.
