  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

He probably had more to go on than that the parish didn't have a national identifier that you could remember. There are some very real and very clear markers for those groups - that's not one of them.

Not every parish gives antidoron to non-Orthodox. It was originally meant for Orthodox who were unable to commune, so they were given the blessed but not consecrated leftover bread. Somehow this shifted to everybody getting a piece and then everybody getting a piece and sharing it with visitors and so forth.

To the OP, don't worry about it-- if nobody gives you a piece, it doesn't mean they don't like you or that they are rejecting you, it just means they have not picked up this practice. I would not recommend going up and taking a piece.

It might help if you posted what jurisdiction the church is in. I know the concept of jurisdictions is kind of confusing, but if you ask they will certainly tell you. It's no big deal, though.

Yes, here in Greece, only Orthodox may receive antidoron, and may consume it only if they haven't eaten anything beforehand.

Yes my wise friend, you must be correct. Please forgive my foolishness and audacity of asking for further information.

At Holy Trinity they have a sweet gentleman that as soon as he venerates the Cross he heads for the basket of antidoran and meets everyone as they leave the sanctuary offering them bread.

He told me it was a tradition from when the christians were still persecuted, jailed and killed that after the eucharist had been given to the members, they woudl take the leftover bread to teh poor who had no bread, in order to share the message of Christ...

When I visited St Mary's of Egypt, one of the Sisters brought me bread...very sweet and kind lady...she nursed me through my 2nd DL and kept pointing me between the bulletin and the book so I could keep up :D

Unless I am much mistaken it is just Eastern Orthodox. It doesn't say Greek Or Russian (or anything of the sort) in the name and I have not seen anything to tie it to one group or another.

Just to check my understanding: I am supposed to wait until near the end of Liturgy and go up when people are kissing the Cross and receive it then?
Yup :) At least that's the way I always did it in the 3 parishes (OCA) I attended while I was a catechumen. Maybe it's different in other parishes.
