  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

try a stream of consciousness. just write whatever you're thinking for ten minutes or whatever. even if it's just gibberish about how frustrated you are with your blank page, there's a good chance it'll remove your writer's block. gets the pen moving, you know? works for me sometimes...like, if i can't seem to work on my story, i'll journal for a bit to un-stick my mind. or, just daydream about your characters and their plot. when you get something you really love, you'll be BURSTING to write it down.
good luck!

Imagine yourself as anyone, anything...create some conflict, no matter how stupid and daydream the conflict and solution and whatnot. Don't be afraid to take inspiration from other source, so long as you don't copy them, lol. Also, one way to increase your productivity is to read, read, read books in the genre you are writing, see how other authors jotted down ideas. I'm a fantasy genre guy myself, and daydreaming fantasy worlds since I was little helps me to create a world and characters on the fly, whether or not they are good. Don't worry about writer's block, either. Sometimes when you have the idea, you have to find the words. I've rewritten a page several times because it didn't sound right. In fact, I'm going to rewrite a book I wrote on over 300 pieces of notepaper, because it didn't "flow" right. I'm very picky when it comes to that.

So the blank page is staring at me and I can't seem to put anything on it... its like I can't focus or something.. any suggestions? If this happens to you... what do you do? Thanks!

Play Civilization 3: Conquests...or maybe Star Wars: Battlefront.

You asked what I do...I don't know that I would recommend it to anybody if you really want to get any work done. :D

nothing.

If I'm not inspired what I write is useless. But sometimes to get my thoughts flowing I just write a short "roughy" that's just simply a few words on a page. From there my ideas usually come better. But I am not an expert in anything, just a bystander that watches as the travelers arive on shore, with such greater aspirations than my own...

When the Blank Death hits me, I usualy take two or three days out of writing and get some new music.

The time from writing lets your creativity stockpile back up and the new music may give you some creative inspiration.

When I go long periods without writing anything, i plan books and short stories that have absolutely nothing to do with the book im stuck on.

When i come back to the book, i can write again. :D

Heck, you could even adapt real life situations in your everyday life to a specific genre. Like, creating a ham sandwich, a normal act, could become a drama, or a life and death situation, or something humorous like that, lol. Just an idea to get the juices flowing would be to write something unrelated to your work. Sometimes it's just better to take two and relax, though. Sometimes I don't write for a few days when I'm serious about a story I'm writing. Then I'm fine.

Remember, your brain is a mental muscle! After exercise it needs some relaxation too!

If I'm on a dead-line, I have to get over myself and do some random scribblings. What works best for me is think of a topic I've not voiced an opinion of and then try to write a poem. By then I'll have probably thought of another idea, or the original thing I was trying to write.

Now, if there's no real hurry, I usually approach something else, or I'll sit back, think on what I want for the idea/story, write down some ideas in a notebook or something, and then attempt which one I like the most. I don't really believe in rushing creativity, but sometimes, you really don't have a choice, do you?
