  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

HumbleMan,

American influences are not the sole factor in the price of gas

Of course not. But by cutting some of our wasteful behavior we would be less depended on Opec oil and wouldn't have to transform wheat fields into fields producing crops to be used for ethanol fuel.

the same could be done by increasing domestic production. There are many untapped areas in the US and within the areas just off the coast of the US.

Then again, perhaps some of the congressional restrictions placed on all motor vehicles -clean running or not - that actually reduce mileage (e.g., catalytic converters, certain dB level mufflers, etc.) could be reviewed and replaced with restrictions determined by emmisions.

This is not solely an American made problem, folks. Yeah, we waste a lot of energy, but as I said before, China, India, and Russia do as well. Of the four major consumers, only Russia is producing, and by using their own supplies, there's actually less on the open market.

Also, I read that oil is over $101 a barrell due to the declining dollar on the world market. American influences are not the sole factor in the price of gas.

It's all America's fault.

By now people begin to realize that by drilling in untapped areas for oil causes environmental problems as well.

There were loud protests along the Florida Gulf Coast when news started to come in suggesting drilling for oil in the waters off the coast line.

California too doesn't want oil platforms along their coast lines.

Drilling for oil in Alaska's wilderness areas is also not looked at favorably.

It's time we stop our addiction to fossil fuels which are also polluting the air we breath.

I agree. The main concern, though, seems to be whether we can switch over to a clean, renewable energy source that is also cost effective.
