  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Yet here, the mall seemed to have normal traffic yesterday. I found some Reebok trainers and looked at engagement rings. ;) The jewelers must be hurtin'. They immediately informed me they'd come down 40%. I can hardly wait for my bloke to arrive so we can pick one already. :p

What boggles my mind is why the rush at a place like Wal-Mart. I mean, how much lower could their prices get? They'll have other sales between now and Christmas, probably better ones, too. It's just so insane the lengths people will go for material things they'll not see as good enough by next Christmas.

I hear that. Its ridiculous. Most toys are broken, and clothes are either worn out or out grown by spring. People sometimes don't consider the cost per play or cost per wear when they shop I guess. If you get a 15 dollar doll for 8 bucks and your daughter plays with it 20 times the toy has more than paid off. Same as clothes.

My SIL got up at 4am and was shopping for most of the day. I have no idea what she got, except for a trampoline for the kids. But 4am? No way...I don't get enough sleep as it is with my babies (and she has triplets!) so I treasure what little sleep I DO get!

Yeah I caught some of that madness, but I didn't wake up at no 4am. I got to the mall around 2pm , I had to buy a couple of two new buttondown shirts a new tie, some cufflinks, and some really cool ankle length brown boots to go with my brown leather jacket.

I need some boots, too, Chris, but I didn't see any I liked. I'm glad you found some things you liked. Were they on sale?

Yes they were. I am very very picky about brown boots too, I tried them on and the GQ factor was a 10. that's how I make a decision on whether or not to drop cash on it,lol.

Apparently two people were shot to death in a Toys 'R Us yesterday too. My goodness.

The news showed an interview of a woman who was shopping yesterday and she explained that the reason people act like they do on black friday is because it's hard to explain to the kids when you can't afford nice presents. What is the world coming to? Someone needs to remind that poor girl that Christmas is NOT about presents. And you can't afford them it's not the end of the world. We did without when I was a kid and it sure didn't hurt me any.

I guess America can join the ranks with other countries now that have the same kinds of violence break out at soccer games.
It's shameful. Downright shameful.

That toys R Us shooting was here in Cal. 2 gang members were in lines & spotted each other & shot. Both died.
What a WASTE.

& this is what I've been complaining about for years now; the over-commercialization of Christmas. It HAS gotten all about the presents and decorations & greed.
They have Christmas ads and displays out sooner & sooner every year.

& the sad thing is that they're FEEDING their kids this mass greed for more toys & materialism. thats why they demand it every year (& demand MORE of it)....
keep feeding a monster & what do you expect?

Our Youth Pastor said he doesn't give his kids toys & stuff for Christmas, they go & do community service stuff to help out others. He does alot of missions work & sees impoverished people on a regular basis, so his heart is drastically different on spoiling his kids w/ presents as he puts it.

I'm hoping this isn't the norm. & they're just isolated incidents from a few sick, clueless people - hopefully this doesn't reflect how bad off we are as human beings or a nation

Just reported:
A worker at a Long Island Wallmart was literally trampled to death this morning as he opened the doors for the crowds lined up outside.

I find this unbelievable - all to grab a bargain for Christmas presents.

What is happening to people?!
:sigh:

Unfortunately what is happening is what has been happening during the entire history of humankind. This is a type of idol worship although many don't want to recognize this for what it is. And it is directly related to the fact that our media and public venues all show santa, reindeer, or angels but they conspicuously leave Christ out at every turn. Only the people of God can turn this around.

Christmas is just another bill~the people of God would do best utterly ignore the "holiday" trappings; simply celebrate Advent and nothing more.

I DO love the feelings surrounding Christmas....
all the lights & how pretty everything is -- it gives me great memories
of growing up & traditionally celebrating the day.

But I have gotten more cynical towards it as a holiday anymore;
but that's mainly becuz so many are forbidding JESUS to be any part of His own supposed birthday -
why celebrate Jesus' birth when He's forbidden to be mentioned in some places? It's a joke really.

So now that it's turned commercial, it's lost alot of what it used to be for me. I'll always love the season & Christmas is a wonderful time
if we make it out to be one in our hearts.
We have to make sure WE don't let it get commercialized in our own homes

It's been commercial for a long time~~even the Charlie Brown Christmas program complains about Christmas being commercialized, and that was 1965...

I think it's important that we as Christians provide a better example of what the holiday truly is about and it's not about how much stuff you can get or how much you spend on someone else. Too often, we fall short of doing so and your pastor has the right idea, especially this year when more folks will be in desperate need. We all have more stuff than we need and I'll bet the donation centers would welcome most anything people are willing to give to help others, especially warm clothes that no longer fit, toys that are going unused and blankets or bedding.

~ Did anyone notice how the areas that the violence associated with Christmas shopping voted for Obama and consistantly support the Demo-facist party in most of its stands?
~ Actually, the consumerism of Christmas is a GOOD thing. Since most of the worlds economy depends on American consumption, and most of the conspicuous consumption in America happens between Thanksgiving day and Christmas day, (something like 60-70% of sales happen then), your consumption of cheap junk makes it so others can eat etc... Talk about a blessing in disguise!
~ If people were for thinking though, the would by their wrapping paper and cards and standard gifts in January and February.
~ This year though, it might be good to buy everything now, because the chances are if the demo-facist and their socialist goons in congress have their way, there will be no money left for you to spend and have Thanksgiving and Christmas next year!
~ Continue to discuss amongst yourselves...

Peace,

Leimeng
