  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Birth Control???

I just went to the doctor to get BC 2 weeks ago I asked every question I could think of and read all the information they gave me on all the different methods. There is no way the pill can terminate a physical pregnancy it is impossible if you do get pregnant and are on the pill it will not hurt the baby in any way. Trust me asked all of this lol you are fine to take the pill and be relaxed that if you do get pregnant you will not hurt or abort the baby. It is a medical fact and anyone here who tells you otherwise id dead wrong. Now can it cause other health issues yes every women reacts to medication differently our bodies are all different. Good Luck =]

It depends on how you are defining terms. Most pro-lifers believe that life begins at fertilization. The drug companies would take the position that pregnancy begins at implantation. The pill effectively prevents implantation of a fertilized egg. Thus, if you believe that life begins at fertilization, the pill most likely will harm the baby. If you believe that pregnancy (or life) begins at implantation, then you would interpret the facts differently.

It is a medical fact that the pill prevents implantation of a fertilized egg. It is also a medical fact that the drug companies and many medical professionals believe that a pregnancy begins at implantation. These are often the same medical professionals who would say that life begins at birth, and so would see nothing wrong with abortion. The question for you, in determining your own values on the topic, is whether you believe an unimplanted embryo is worthy of the same right to life as an implanted embryo.

Anyone who tells you that the pill has no abortifacient effect is either (a) using a very different definition of abortion than most pro-lifers would use, (b) lying, or (c) mistaken.

Again you are wrong I just had this explained to me by my doctor. The pill works from preventing an egg from ever being released at all so the sperm and egg never meet because the egg never leaves the fallopian tubes. Now obviously we know that it has to be taken every day at the same time of day or it isn't as effective so because of this babies are still born from the pill usually due to the users mistakes not the pill itself. In this case if a baby is formed the pill will not hurt or abort the baby. The two hormones in the pill are estrogen and that is actually good for the fetus. And progesterone and that does nothing to the fetus it doesn't help or harm it. So once a mother finds out she is having a child she would terminate the pill and would see a doctor ect. The pill will not cause fertilization and if it does it is safe for the fetus no type of abortion happens with the pill ever. It is 98% effective if the user makes no mistakes and takes the pill the way that they should.

I had all of this explained to me in detail by mu doctor because I am against abortion and did not want to risk terminating a pregnancy without me knowing it. I choose the pill because it has no possible way of terminating life.

I have already posted links to detailed explanations. If your doctor is telling you that the pill will not prevent a fertilized egg from implanting itself in the the uterus, he is not telling you the truth. What I suspect he told you is that it will not cause an abortion of an already implanted egg. In that regard, he is more or less correct.

Mkkk it was a she and she as a licensed medical professional can not lie to my face. That is illegal and I have a right to know what is going into my body. So I'm sorry I believe my doctor over you and some websites. I asked detailed questions to get what was right for me and my body and I was given detailed answers I am satisfied with my pills so far and have not had any issues. Will have to agree to disagree because you are stuck in your ways and I highly doubt you will call a doctor and ask them.

Sometimes u shouldnt really rely on ur doctor alone. They also commit mistakes so it would be better if you read a book about it. Just saying. :)

You are welcome to do as you wish. If actually researching an issue instead of relying on the opinion of someone with a potentially different value system than my own makes me "stuck in my ways", then I am guilty. I am giving you information that is widely available and would be acknowledged by any competent medical professional (i.e., that BC pills can prevent implantation of a fertilized egg, which many pro-life advocates would consider a form of abortion). You can respond by calling me a liar, you can respond by deciding that this information does not cause any ethical dilemma for you, or you can decide that it does, or you can research the issue for yourself to see if I might be right. You apparently have decided to take the first option. Oh well.

I did I read about 10 pages of documents on birth control methods that they gave me at the doctors office. I had to read over it before I could choose a type.

I never once said that she lied to your face. I find it far more likely that you misunderstood her. And, there is no need for me to "call a doctor and ask them" for information that is widely available that one of the the mechanisms of the pill is to prevent implantation by making the uterine wall inhospitable to the fertilized embryo. If you are concerned about whether this is consistent with pro-life principles, I suggest that it might be worth asking a pro-life doctor.

Well I was very specific with her that I wanted something that met all my criteria one being my stance as pro-life. She gave me something that fit that criteria I trust her judgment and professional advice. I was in her office for almost 2 hours talking about all the different types and what would work for me and what wouldn't.
