  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Making a context to discuss why this man is considered an heretic
in GT (Helping to keep other threads on track :) )

Let's try to look at his words only for this thread.
What did he say that makes him dangerous.

Long videos not appreciated by me ^_^

Here's one statement attributed to him from a cult watch website:

“There are anointings, mantles, revelations and mysteries that have lain unclaimed, literally where they were left because the generation that walked in them never passed them on. I believe it’s possible for us to recover realms of anointing, realms of insight, realms of God that have been untended for decades simply by choosing to reclaim them and perpetuate them for future generations.” Bill Johnson

Lol I know the guy next to him with the blonde hair (John Tolo) I am friends with him on facebook and have spoken to him on numerous occasions, i've tried correcting him regarding his view on ecumenism, he promotes unity over doctrine and is a big promoter of IHOP.
yuck.
Told him that Luther would be rolling over if he knew the stuff he was promoting, furhtermore he is an advocate like Johnson of the NAR and word/faith movements.

I only watched the first few minutes.
As you know, I promote ecumenism (I think, there you
go with your fancy words ;) LOL I'm assuming you mean
unity in Christ!)
You're a fan of Luther?

Great idea for a thread!

Let the Bill Johnson bashers come forward and explain

Yeah, I'm not interested in edited & spliced videos of Bill where people try making him look like a heretic.

Who has quotes and actual things he's said which make him some sort of heretic? *Do not give just one liners - Please show what he's said in context which you disagree with and why

Disclaimer: Let me just get this out of the way.. I am not a Bill Johnson groupie, but I appreciate his teachings and how the Lord moves at Bethel church. I would not drive or fly thousands of miles to go to a service, nor am I enamoured with signs & wonders. I'm a JESUS groupie plain & simple.

Luther? oh yeah...
Bondage of the will, is one of the greatest theological writings this side of the penning of scripture..

Ecumenism on non-truth's? no-thanks.
Unity on Christ is the only unity.

Tolo promoted this thing called "of one accord" at an evangelical church with some catholic high up by the name of Canessa or something similar, I printed the brochures for him and when we talked I made the mention about Luther and he said ohhh the RCC has changed since then..That's when I knew he had no idea what he was talking about.

Good one.
I've heard some people say that Bill Johnson encourages people to go to the grave sites of dead saints and "suck" the anointing from their grave sites.. ROFLOL!
That is pure trype.

Johnson's encouragement is for this generation to ask the Lord to pass on to us the mantles other saints before us held. Elijah passed his mantle onto Elisha.

I don't see a thing wrong with the answers Bill gave in this video. What I do see however, is the respondent who created the video being extremely legalistic in the same manner the Pharisees did with Jesus.
...oh... and at the end the video creator did the "splice & edit" thing I detest... LOL

But Luther claimed things that are unbiblical.
So how can you be a fan?

Ecumenism on non-truth's? no-thanks.
Unity on Christ is the only unity.
I don't base my unity on 'correctness' though.
I am talking about unity on Christ as well.
But you and I have different understandings of
who He is, well everyone does. We're all created
differently but in His image nonetheless. How can
I NOT have unity with those who have a different
understanding than I do?
Wouldn't I only have unity with myself then?

Tolo promoted this thing called "of one accord" at an evangelical church with some catholic high up by the name of Canessa or something similar, I printed the brochures for him and when we talked I made the mention about Luther and he said ohhh the RCC has changed since then..That's when I knew he had no idea what he was talking about.
I had an Accord.
That was one nice car!
Solid as Sears :p

As far as Luther and RCC,
ya lost me LOL!
Sorry sim.

Much like Calvin, his theology for the most part was quite solid, yet his ecclesiology I have disagreements.

That strikes me as goofy, not heretical.

At first glance, it looks as though he is appealing to the neophyte, & ready-to-convert, with no apologies necessary to more learned advocates with perhaps more sophisticated vocabularies, but less of what it takes to get up & out in public & make the basic evangelic 'fuss for Jesus'.
If you're doin' the hands-on social charity work, I can cut you some slack on doctrine.

This is the first I've heard of this fella.

My immediate reaction is that the Holy Spirit was given in full at Pentecost; he is no longer given in measures. Or have I missed the man's point?

No you're on point.

I was talking with a guy who's a student at Simpson University (C&MA affiliated), he was in a group study session at Starbucks when a group of Bethel folk came in trying to evangelize people. When they realized he and his group were Simpson students they got hostile and started accusing them of heresy and dead and religion and other nonsense. When the Bethelites (as I call them) left the study group could barely contain their laughter. ^_^

I also recall chatting with the (now retired) priest at our Orthodox mission here in town, he had been at a meeting in Redding and ran into some Bethel students from their "School of Supernatural Ministry" (boy that sounds weird) in Los Molinos on the way back. He said they were gawking at him like they had never seen an Orthodox priest before, they asked to pray for him to which he graciously declined. The way he described the situation to me, boy they sure sounded full of themselves. :p

I have quite a few "interesting" testimonies about these guys being in such close proximity to their church, we have a lot of people headed up there from here and vice versa.

Much like Calvin, his theology for the most part was quite solid, yet his ecclesiology I have disagreements.
For the most part?
He taught things that were unbiblical as you're saying that BJ does.
affirm that Baptism is no human trifle, but that it was established by God Himself. Moreover, He earnestly and solemnly commanded that we must be baptized or we shall not be saved. No one is to think that it is an optional matter like putting on a red coat. It is of greatest importance that we hold Baptism in high esteem as something splendid and glorious. The reason why we are striving and battling so strenuously for this view of Baptism is that the world nowadays is full of sects that loudly proclaim that Baptism is merely an external form and that external forms are useless.... Although Baptism is indeed performed by human hands, yet it is truly God’s own action (1978, pp. 98-99).

So why accuse the one and laud the other?
