  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I don't find this helpful.
Sorry, not gonna lie, it was chosen because it was the shortest one I saw.

The problem is that the issues can't be dealt with so succinctly. I disagree with Johnson's conclusions, but I also think the video editor's approach was simplistic and open to debate.

But relative to the OP, nothing "heretical" there.
Thank you.

No you're on point.

I was talking with a guy who's a student at Simpson University (C&MA affiliated), he was in a group study session at Starbucks when a group of Bethel folk came in trying to evangelize people. When they realized he and his group were Simpson students they got hostile and started accusing them of heresy and dead and religion and other nonsense. When the Bethelites (as I call them) left the study group could barely contain their laughter. ^_^

I also recall chatting with the (now retired) priest at our Orthodox mission here in town, he had been at a meeting in Redding and ran into some Bethel students from their "School of Supernatural Ministry" (boy that sounds weird) in Los Molinos on the way back. He said they were gawking at him like they had never seen an Orthodox priest before, they asked to pray for him to which he graciously declined. The way he described the situation to me, boy they sure sounded full of themselves. :p

I have quite a few "interesting" testimonies about these guys being in such close proximity to their church, we have a lot of people headed up there from here and vice versa.
I have tons of "interesting" testimonies about RCCs too.
But that doesn't help anyone decide about their doctrine.
I'd like to be able to make an unbiased decision.
I have more than just a passing interest in this guys teachings.
Thanks for your help.

Even if it's true - they're young people. Find me a group of young college aged kids going to school ANYwhere who don't cop attitudes.

Once again I find your use of this story is simply to try to say something negative about Bethel in some way shape or form, but the truth is, the behaviour of individual students does not reflect on the school nor does it reflect on the church or it's belief system.

It's just more heresay and is being used out of context

At first glance, it looks as though he is appealing to the neophyte, & ready-to-convert, with no apologies necessary to more learned advocates with perhaps more sophisticated vocabularies, but less of what it takes to get up & out in public & make the basic evangelic 'fuss for Jesus'.
If you're doin' the hands-on social charity work, I can cut you some slack on doctrine.
Wot?
Wotcha talkin' about Ricky? *hugs

For the most part?
He taught things that were unbiblical as you're saying that BJ does.
affirm that Baptism is no human trifle, but that it was established by God Himself. Moreover, He earnestly and solemnly commanded that we must be baptized or we shall not be saved. No one is to think that it is an optional matter like putting on a red coat. It is of greatest importance that we hold Baptism in high esteem as something splendid and glorious. The reason why we are striving and battling so strenuously for this view of Baptism is that the world nowadays is full of sects that loudly proclaim that Baptism is merely an external form and that external forms are useless.... Although Baptism is indeed performed by human hands, yet it is truly God’s own action (1978, pp. 98-99).

So why accuse the one and laud the other?

One does not deny the divinity of the incarnate Christ.
That my friend is heretical...
yet questions on baptism have been since the 1st churches.

Here's an interesting question in this regard, does scripture teach that a person is saved “by faith alone” without any further acts of obedience?

I've read through the thread, but may have missed something. Please point out all the specific cases where someone has denied the deity of the incarnate Christ.

Thanks.

Baptism isn't his only heretical teaching.

And bj doesn't deny the divinity of Christ.

I'm trying to be unbiased and fair.
If one is teaching things that are UNScriptrual
and you say you're a fan, then another is
teaching things that are "fuzzy" and you wanna
tar and feather him, what's up with that?

I said i'm a fan of his theology not his ecclesiology, which inludes his sacramentalism, it's why i left that church!
Johnson does deny His divinity in His incarnate...
the very words were "not as God"
can't be much more clear than that.

Context.
"not as God" without context doesn't help.

And that's fine, and normal, because most teachers are
mortal and fallible ;) but I go to some of these cult sites
and EVERYone is an Heretic.
Kind of hard to find the truth without really doing a lot
of research.

I linked his book sunny...
Make no mistake if you go back and find that link he says specifically
Christ did miracles and wonders but "not as God"

There is only 2 sentences on that page! You can't do that, it's like taking the bible and claiming just one verse in it explains the entire message of the bible.
Sweet mother of pearl, anyone can find something wrong with someone if they want based on how you're picking words to bits

Furthermore, it has been already proven that God can and does limit Himself which is what He did while on earth.
