  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I think we should all be modest. Some people wear things better than some. For an example...if you have a big chest...then maybe a tank is too revealing. If you spill outa your clothes...then tuck that stuff into bigger clothes.

And I mean the MEN too. You know the cargo shorts that you guys all wear? When you sit, the legs are so open, even though they are long shorts...you can see right up the leg to your underwear! EEEK!

I had to tell my husband this about forty nine eleven times before he remembered to tuck in the sides of the legs when he sits!

In my opinion I don't feel a Christian woman should wear a bikini in public. No matter what your body type is or your confidence level. We need to think of our witness to the world and how the world views us as 'Christians'. We are to be in it not of it. Also it can be a very big stumbling block and temptation to lust for alot of men out there. But when you are in the privacy of your own yard I think it is okay. I know I lay on our deck to get sun where no one other than imediate family can see me. When I do swim in public I try to dress as modest as one can to swim. Also men can wear way too skimpy trunks. They need to consider dressing more decent too.

I agree with this. My wife wears a 2 piece but it almost looks like a one piece when we go to a public place like a water slide park. She has a Bikini but only wears it around her mom, brother and SIL. (Oh Yeah, and me too!):)

Personally, I wish that no one would wear them. So many men (including myself) now a days are struggling with "sins of the flesh" it makes going to the beach dreadful. If my family goes, I stay home, because I know the temptation will be overwhelming and I will more than likely fail.
my 2 cents is all.

I'm fine with any age wearing bikinis. Doesn't matter if you have a perfect body or not. In many European and other countries, the body is regarded as beautiful and not sexualized so much as here. I really don't see what the big deal is.

Modesty is also very subjective. Some people think women wearing pants is immodest. Others think that's okay. Some think women should only wear dresses and anything above the ankle is immodest. Others find Daisy Dukes not immodest. Others do.

What is your purpose for wearing whatever? Is it to be sexually arousing? Or, are you proud of the body God gave you and you feel comfortable in your own skin? One must always use discretion and do whatever the Spirit leads you. Yes, you should take care to not cause others to stumble, but sometimes I think people take this to a legalistic standpoint and impose things on others where God does not impose on them.

Some may deem the clothes I wear to go workout as immodest. My workout clothes work for me. I can move around in them, feel comfortable, and they do not cause me to be more immodest (meaning, like my shirt doesn't go up and expose my breasts because I don't wear a shirt, rather a skin tight workout top). For me, wearing a baggy shirt (though less revealing) is uncomfortable, distracting, and causes me to not get an effective workout. Shirts do not work for me in my workouts. I figure, if my appearance bothers someone so much, they can divert their eyes. I'm not wearing my outfit to sexualize anything or to be a distraction. I wear what I wear to get me an effective workout.

I agree with mdolls68. My wife has a bikini, it's tasteful and merely a swimsuit in my opinion. It serves a purpose, either to tan or swim in. And she does have a great body and is well proportioned so yeah, I see men look, but you know what? It's not cause' she purposefully wore a bikini to do it, not wearing it to attract attention, and that I understand. I mean, are you going to stop every person from ever looking at you in anything you wear? So, it's not a huge issue for me. Does it make her less Christian? no, she's swimming in a swimsuit! sorry she's not wearing a two-story Dorito bag while she's doing it, but it's comfortable for her and I often think some people should keep their animalistic sexual emotions inside and talk to God more.

I think bikinis are fine. Living near the beach it is like a norm. Now if I did not feel comfortable in one then no I wouldn't wear one but I don't see anything wrong with them. Especially to get a tan. I will feel when I have to wear a one piece that I am really old! :)
